Also, if you are a smoker, do so before entering the airport.....there is no smoking past security in CUN and they won't let you re-enter Mexico without an airline agent escort (so I was told by security)....so basically a no go!

Thanks for all the responses, I'm surprised UA hasn't contracted the lounge at CUN for J pax. I don't mind missing the access much at airports with good selections of venues with city prices (e.g. Vancouver, Toronto, Tokyo, Taipei, Seoul, Singapore, etc), but it'll suck at airports like CUN. I'll try not to arrive too early.
I'm surprised with the high number of PP members on this thread: maybe because UA J flyers are more prepared not getting lounge access with US domestic flights?

Cancun etc is predominantly a low-brow tourist destination (I qualify). UA premium-paying traffic is probably 'way below average. If UA had all-coach planes, I bet they'd use them to Cancun. Las Vegas and Orlando have a lot of convention business, so clubs makes sense there, even though they're big tourist draws also. Honolulu only has a club because of the Asia/Guam departures - if it weren't for those destinations, I doubt there'd be a club there. UA provides service to Cancun, but spends only to the extent they have to.

I got upgraded as a Gold (along with my +1) on EWR-CUN-EWR if that says anything about the premium market lol. The other times I booked F for I think like $600 r/t.

The increase in PP members is mainly due to credit cards (AMEX Platinum or Citi Prestige).

This is the big reason, IMO. I'd add all the leisure Mexico destinations to that list. I've flown IAH-PVR (good old Puerto Vallarta) for the past 4-5 years at Christmas, so high season and pretty much always cleared the CPU, even in 2015 as a lowly Silver! The return, ex-Mexico flight is typically nearly all CPUs in business class. When I came back this past December, we were on an sCO Boeing with a 16 or 20 px J cabin and I remember counting that all but 2 of the pax were CPUs, based off the UG list in the app! Why bother paying for your pax to have lounge access...

My trip is coming up next month, J section was almost empty on each leg. I know it's not peak season for CUN, but I thought there are some leisure travelers like myself willing to pay for J, maybe there aren't many. It shouldn't cost too much for UA to contract the 3rd party lounge, either by monthly or per pax basis.
I learned AM has lounges there, I'll fly Skyteam next time to CUN, or anywhere in Mexico for that matter. Or maybe those J travelers already know about the lack of lounge access with Star Alliance, and maybe that's why my flights' J section was empty.

Mexico City is the only Mexican airport where UA offers premium passengers lounge access. Even the other business markets like Monterrey and Guadalajara don't have lounges.
Cancun is certainly United's busiest airport in Mexico, but it's a price-sensitive holiday market. No need for a lounge. United's P fares from CUN are rock bottom and a typical CUN-IAH-California route in P is less than a standalone IAH-California in P. If that's not enough to get you pay for a business I doubt the addition of a lounge will be.

Are you seriously suggesting presence of a lounge is the major reason why F seats don't sell to Cancun? Potential F travelers to Cancun from Houston are going to fly to Cancun via Atlanta on Delta to ensure lounge access on return? OK....

And the only reason DL has lounge access is because AM flies all over Mexico.
+1
I like lounge access, but it just isn't that big of a deal.
AC does not have a lounge in YYJ, and that's capital city of British Columbia.
Not that DL would have lounges anywhere in Canada except KLM in Toronto and AF in Montreal.
