Bringing this one up from the depths..
My wife and I have a fantastic opportunity to take a short trip to Cancun for our 15th anniversary - and I went all out and booked first for us, both ways on the 777-200 (ORD-CUN). However, after reading some reviews, these 777-200s are a bit long in the tooth. I realize it's the Business/First product pre-Polaris. I flew this a while back a few times to Europe.
My question - what would you do here - Fly 737 first, or fly 777-200 first? Even though these 777s are old, I still think the lie flat is probably the better way to go - but maybe I'm missing something.

772 all the way. Especially as a couple, assuming you can get a window pair. The seats are super comfortable. UA's 737s are miserable (with the new Maxs only slightly less miserable than the 737/738/739).

It's a short flight - the lie flat capability almost shouldn't be part of the decision-making process. What is more important is the legroom and IFE for a flight like that. And for those two reasons alone - the 772 - easily.

I just flew to CUN today on 739 in F. It was manageable except for the crappy wifi. I have also flown DL A330 down to CUN. I would definitely choose any lie-flat over domestic F.
