Is the new UC open yet?

From the comments in one of the United Hub articles:

"A brand new United Club in Terminal 3 on the Mezzanine Level, near Gate 72 is opening in May. Daily hours of operation will be 5:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. ^Rob"

Does this mean the old UC will be closed, or is this an additional club?

No and I doubt it will be open in May
BTW, this is just a temporary club until the new T3E UC is opening in 2015.

Nice new area...but I think they kind of missed the boat by not having more DL-style seating at each gate area (with both communal tables and individual, more private seat at each gate area with power/iPads and the like).

They need a UC in T3E. I connected there a week and a half ago, and my arriving flight came into T3E. My departure was also from T3E, but I had about 3 hours to kill, so I needed the UC. (Especially since the WiFi on my PS flight was uselessly slow.) It was quite a hike to get over to the club from there and then back again. Time killer. Not that I can't walk that far.

That said, even though it is somewhat dated, the existing UC is one of my favorites. There are many places where I can go to find peace and quiet while working and making phone calls there.

I don't like a lot of background noise, nor do I want to intrude on other people's need for quiet when talking on the phone. Many of the new UCs are too open to find space such as this in which to work as effectively. While I understand what they are trying to do, it seems they forgot that many of us are flying for business and have business to conduct when we are connecting, waiting for departures, etc.

Well the temporary one by 72 will be closer.

And the new one, well, you passed it on your right as you exited T3E. It is a great location, has the potential to be spectacular.
