Cleared OMA-IAH and IAH-IAD today.
OMA-IAH (CR7) cleared at the 72 hour window. IAH-IAD (764) cleared at 24 hours.
Of course today was a holiday - so an outlier.

CPU will never be what it was. Never. UA will continue to sell the seats out from under us. Period. So, what's a mother to do?
Speaking as a Premier now myself (I was a Gold or Platinum for four years with CO, so this is not an entirely new experience for me), I recommend we all rethink the stubborn refusal to pay for an upgrade we think we should get for free. I'm not piling on the entitlement bias, believe me. I'm merely recommending a practical approach to reality. Weigh the circumstances. Maybe that 4-hour flight is worth $199 to buy up FC. Maybe that 2-hour flight is not. Take your chances on the latter, not the former.
RNE, you'll be happier if you live in the world, instead of railing against it.

Cleared twice as gold this weekend...I'm batting 1.000 for my last 5 flights which is a pleasant surprise. As mentioned above, it's a holiday weekend FWIW.
Friday 5/24 6AM ORD-TPA 739 T class- cleared at 24 hours
Monday 5/27 830AM FLL-ORD 738 T class- cleared at 48 hours

i would happily pay <$200 for a transcon upgrade on certain days when i want to get a lot of work done, or sleep. those days are not often, and typically i just book them on miles in confirmed saver F. unfortunately, as an elite, i do not see those low $ offers and my guess is that now that you are an elite again you will not see them either. they will go to the kettles when someone's reservation is out of sync during CPU and R sits open at 4 or higher inside T24.

I suspect many flyers are already doing what I do, which is pay up at booking (either with $$ or an instrument) on those flights where I will be really unhappy if stuck in back. This, to me, feels very similar to what we used to in the "good old days" before upgrades were complimentary.

RNE, advising one and all to adapt to the new reality. Is that so crazy?

CPU just cleared for one of my reservations that I made but hadn't ticketed yet. It was in the "your purchase is confirmed" phase. Never have seen that one before.

Yes, really. Search for the word "declined" which Premiers so smugly spout, as they cut off their noses to spite their faces.
What you are doing is quite sensible and I applaud you. I suspect many are not, however, doing what you're doing.

I cleared CPU on an MSP-SFO award ticket yesterday (737-700) at T-24 with 4 seats remaining beforehand. Only 7 names were left on the list uncleared, likely due to slow business travel after the Memorial Day holiday.
SFO-LAS last night had just two pax who didn't clear.

Well you list yourself as at AKC (did you actually mean CAK) but I am assuming are driving to CLE.
If so, then you have little choice, Jeff has you by the *****. You can pay, or ride in the back.
Now me? Well I fly perhaps 80 trips a year, and if I paid an extra $200 each way to upgrade it would cost me an extra $32,000. Given that choice were I not GS (and next year I will not be.
) I would pick another airline that will upgrade me. Look me up in the dictionary and you will not see my picture under "patsy" or "Stockholm syndrome"
