I'm 2/3 on domestic flights so far this year. I surprisingly cleared ORD-IAH & IAH-ORD as Gold. I have 3 more segments in 2 weeks, but my expectations are low.

Are you complaining that CPU's are now clearing?

Or am I not getting what you are saying?

Just cleared CPU SFO- SEA today, a 757 with lots of upgrades...

No, I'm not complaining. I'm suggesting to MatthewLAX that his upgrades probably cleared because of the added flights, since I gathered from his post he was pleasantly surprised his upgrades cleared (including for a companion.)

I know the increased service to kill Virgin has something to do with it, but I've opted for more LAX-EWR-LAX flights lately and I suspect other elites have too--they are cheaper and more readily available. My flights have all been full (above 85% I'd say) so the new service is bringing in more passengers and I have to guess more elites.

But surely you are correct in that this has something to do it with. I've cleared other routes to, though!

Hmm, possible CPU on a domestic seat, or instrument upgrade on lie flat/flat bed seats... It just seems to me that its not worth the risk, although your stats are telling. Plus I live in Brooklyn, making EWR a hassle if I am not leaving from the office. True, can't beat the frequency, the cutback on PS is noticeable.

Award saver ticket OW (I'm a UA Club Visa cardholder), 2 segments, including SFO-LAS on a Friday night...

I'm jealous - I'm 1/42 this year (and that was a fluke midweek DFW->DEN segment). I don't even bother to check the upgrade list anymore.

They won't show up on the cleared list because they bought the higher fare on the other flight, but their fare was (roughly) equivalent to the First fare on the new flight, so their seat in first wasn't an upgrade.

(Edit) I've had this happen to me on twice so far this year on SDCs from SFO-SNA.

CPUs improving ?

Hey guys! Quick question.. It's been months since i used a regional upgrade for LAX-IAD flight. It's an A319 aircraft and I know that I won't have a chance for CPU on this flight.. However I've been wait listed for upgrade using RPU. My question is -- does your wait list position matter whether you're using GPU, RPU, or CPU? I remember it didn't matter if you're within CPU time (100 hours) as status ruled the upgrade game pre-merger. Is this still true in the current system? If it is, I think it will just be beneficial for me if I take out my RPU from my wait list, yes?

a quick read of Upgrades overview will answer most question

No difference between GPU/RPU/miles but CPU is lower priority.

CPUs improving ?

I have been getting passed over when at t-24 there are 4 open seats and I am number 2 on the list
The list never changed and the seats disappear either for TOD upgrades or misconnects
It is happening more and more on my lax to ewr routes

I've had the exact opposite experience on these routes (cleared at 23 hours with two seats left and me #1 on the list last Friday on an A319), but it wouldn't surprise me if they are adjusting for the increased capacity on this route with lower TODs that elites are not even offered...

I'm more so LAX based ; my CPU rate is 75%.

My coworkers in/out of SFO are 20% ; one of them is even a GS and he has worse upgrades clear than I have out of LAX.

I was LAX-YVR on UA (Express); I cleared about 72 hours out; my co-worker on a higher fare SFO-YVR with GS status was #6 on the Upgrade list with only 2 seats open...

Our guys out of IAH complain of the same

Use an RPU only if you know you can confirm it WELL before the GS upgrade window for CPU's start. (120 hours). I use RPU's on co-workers with Airline status on * but no ability to do upgrades (they return the favor to me on their carrier) but ensure it will clear when the book (e.g. look for space available for an RPU via expertflyer)

well, had an itinerary this weekend i needed to cancel due to illness -- cleared CPU right at the 48 window on 3/4 flights of course (missed SFO-IAH). hopefully this trend carries into next week.

typical for my non-Saturday flying, it looks like I may be missing CPU on Weds on a U fare with R1/F4. unbelievable. i am never shocked when it miss out below a Q...but a U?

not worth the 15k miles but sure is tempting.
