"expert mode" was confusing to non-experts? Who would have guessed.
C'mon, United, your operational performance is in the toilet, and your employees are driving customers away. Why provide one more reason for your elites to be unhappy? |

Another idea is to call their res lines and ask if an upgrade and/or award is available for "this flight? What about this one? Or this one? Can I get an award on this date? What about in E+? Business? ...... Sorry to take up so much of your time but I used to be able to see this on your site."
The only thing they understand is cost and revenue. Tie up their res lines and it means more CS hours and potential loss of revenue as customers have a harder time getting through to book a tix. |
Thanks, KVS, for ruining this for all of us.

This is really disappointing. Expert mode was very valuable, allowing expert travelers to obtain useful information without calling a United agent. The value of the expert mode was further increased after the bugs were introduced by the March system change; there was a chance to fix some of the problems created by the bugs. For me, this is an indirect but significant devaluation of frequent flyer benefits.

How do you log into expert mode?

Could we collectively come up with actions that all participate in to send UA a message that this is not ok? Maybe all sign a letter/email, all call customer service, etc.

On a side note, I think the "Mileage Plus Upgrade Award" box will stay, allowing you to see if an upgrade (GPU) can be instantly confirmed and that EF will have the revenue and mileage fare buckets but R visibility will be going away. Would have been nice if UA Insider could have elaborated more on the changes instead of shoveling some BS in our faces. |
If you don't like the changes you'll like, you gotta vote with your wallet, slamming the door on your way out. Companies don't understand "threats" of leaving. You have to actually leave to make an impact.
For those flying domestically, US and WN are really good choices imo. WN is probably the best one, if you're ok with flying in coach. US is great for domestic two-cabin travel and for international flights to EU or Central America / Caribbean, if you want to stay on *A. AA is pretty great too, from what I hear. |

I have put up with a lot of crap from UA this year but if this means no EF visibility either I am going to happily use up my miles and go investigate AA (as I should probably already have done)... I have a lot of choices here in GRU to get home and I will rethink not paying a little extra for DL EC....
:td::td::td: PS they really want us calling agents to get bucket and/or upgrade info? How efficient is that??? |
The PMUA site allowed one to look for award and upgrade inventory (even though to look for upgrade inventory one had to pretend to make an award booking).
I will be really unhappy if the new release offers anything less than that. I suppose the ANA tool will work for award inventory. And for upgrades, we could just book, try to upgrade, and apply the 24-hour cancel if the upgrade fails. |
Call, call and call to request the info we used be able see.

So re-reading UA insider's release--not sure what Shannon means by "one new feature added" ? Wonder if this is a way to toggle on/off expert mode? But reading the rest of the release, I'm not overly optimistic.

Thanks for the memories, United
After almost 10 years and 2.5 MM (2/ w about 50-60% FF and nearly 85% FF this year) I'm sick and tired of this incremental crap. Before this year I never flew on any other airlines, other than infrequently when I was stuck on USdisparways. Now, all since mid 1st QTR I have flown on DL over 110,000 BIS miles all in PAID A/P/F and vow not to purchase another paid first ticket on UA again. I'm sick of the death of a 1000 cuts! Furthermore this GS, will be calling up GS customer relations Monday morning and canceling 3 refundable A/Z ticket and taking the DL flights I just booked for less money too boot instead.
I am firmly convinced that the new united is no different than a crack head hooker; both are looking to take your money without regard to repeat business or the consequences of their actions. The only difference I can see now is the hooker promises to "love you for a long time", United is only interested in a quickie, wam, bam thank you ma'am and on to the next kettle. And just think about 4-5 years ago, United was so good to us, I'll never ever forget flying the 777 motion simulator in Denver for flying over 400K miles in a year, now I wonder if my inbound flight will even make it to the gate. How things have changed, so I'm now sure my ~$75K domestic spend is not important to UA anymore, I'm just glad I saw what was happening earlier this year and really enjoyed flying on DL . BTW, I'm typing this from 38,000 FT...ergo I'm not on United at the moment. |
