What's the difference between "fingerprints" and "biometric"?

Had my first attempt with UA yesterday at MSP and got the magic three beeps. ^ I did make sure the PASS ID was in the PNR, not just my profile.

Biometric could be iris or retina as well as fingerprints or palm prints.

PASS ID? What is that and how do I make sure it's in my PNRs?

the full item is "Known Traveler Number/Pass ID (optional)"
This is for those with Global Entry / Nexus / .....
It is part of your profile and can be edited as part of "Edit traveler information" for each itin.

You can still be eligble for PreCheck without a trusted traveled id.

I didn't say there was logic behind the decision . . .

I can tell you for a fact that that is not happening.

No, your airline status would explain it.

Not even close-- the SF-86 is much more detailed.

Right, but for purposes of CLEAR though, and the supposedly different screening procedures at different stations, what is the difference?

Clear doesn't do palm prints at all for example.

I don't normally use my MileagePlus account, since I accumulate miles on aeroplan, but I thought I would enter my known traveller number in case it somehow might enable me to use pre-check. I noticed that the account has my name with my middle initial, not my full middle name. I had not added my passport so I did added it. I had not added a Traveller ID so I added it as well, and put in my known traveller number. Do I need to get my name changed to the full name spelled out rather than with my middle initial?

Is this available for UA travelers at EWR yet? Has TSA or UA given any indication on the time frame?

That has been the general recommendation on this forum but I have not seen a definitive statement from TAS/airlines this is an issue.

Huh... well, I have my number in my profile. I'll make sure it's in my next itin. I just assumed it would get pulling in from my profile whenever I'm the traveler. Thanks...!

Not yet available in EWR as of last week of August when I was there.

I'm hoping it comes out soon (if ever), as the Premier Access lanes at EWR are a total joke due to being jammed up by tons of Chase credit card holders, TOD buyers, etc. etc.

Went through EWR two days ago; as others have pointed out - no Pre Check yet. I did get the three beeps, though.

What is the big deal about Pre-check? I got it at ORD a few weeks ago, and opted out. I have artificial hips and always set off the WTMD. When I approached the checkpoint, I still had to take my shoes off, belt off and the only benefit was that I could leave my computer in the bag. When I set off the WTMD, I had to get patted down like everyone else . . . You'll forgive my obtuseness, but what does this do for me??
