The Fleet Status site is:
https://sites.google.com/site/unitedfleetsite/
At the site, you can find information about the interior features, livery, etc., for every plane in United's fleet.
To determine which plane your flight will be on go to mobile.united.com and then click on flight status. Put in the flight number for your flight and just have it use today's date (occasionally it'll say flight not operated on this date in which case just choose one of the other 3 dates it lists). In the address bar you'll see something like this:
mobile.united.com/FlightStatus/FlightDetails?carrierCode=UA&flightNumber=1205&fli ghtDate=9%2F22%2F2013&origin=EWR&destination=SFO
Just change the flight date to match the day of your scheduled flight and then change the origin / destination if necessary. Once you do that look in the details tab under aircraft # and if they have assigned a plane it'll say something like #3506 and the type of plane. Once you know that go to the United Fleet website listed above and cross-reference the four digit number against the "aircraft" column under the appropriate aircraft type.
Keep in mind that things change as they get closer and sometimes either they won't have assigned an aircraft yet or it'll be assigned #0 if it's a few days away and they are anticipating aircraft movement (e.g. putting a new/converted p.s. plane entering into service).

I agree that they're loud and annoying. Even when I'm in First, I still get those DirecTV ads. You could always send a private message to UA Insider on FlyerTalk and e-mail [email protected]. I may do the same since I agree with you on that one. Perhaps others will too and put some pressure on United about it.

While I agree -- it's actually gotten worse since the merger IME. The ads in the pmCO days never lasted that long -- usually ended after the "how to purchase DirectTV" ad. Now there are the lincoln ads, ads about the new UA food, etc etc etc...

Agreed, the ads are ridiculously long. If you have already paid, or are in first, you shouldn't have to be subjected to ads. They've already made their money from you. Sometimes I just want to continue watching what I was watching before the safety briefing started. The scheduled block to block time is what determines the prices, so cutting out a part of that time with ads is kind of cheating the consumer.

Use the armrest control to turn the brightness down and it eventually turns the screen off, sweet bliss.

Slight correction N76516 is the 738 with the eco-skies paint, N77518 is just a regular paint job.

Before the safety video runs, you can adjust the brightness. The brightness will remain as set throughout the safety video and the ads. You can't adjust the brightness during the safety video or the ads. So make its the first thing you do when you sit down in the seat!
