How many more years can be expected out of those 57s?
Are they're still being produced by Boeing and competitive? I believe the A321 still rolls of the assembly line. especially with the fact that most 757s in service have been equiped with the blended winglets. I think the PM UA 757s are slowly being equiped with the winglets eventhough PM united wasn't all that interested in the winglets on the aircraft out side of the PS market. Also to you Friendly I don't see the 757 going any where anytime soon. I will hedge my bets that you will still see the 757 in service with UAL long after the 747 is gone. ...... @:-) that will be a sad day though when the 747-400 are retired from United.:( What are peoples thoughts on the 757 on transatlantic service. I have never done one of those routes on CO. but 757 is a mainstay of CO intl fleet |

I flew on a 757 in China last year, from Urumqi to Kashgar.
Seems like I was in row 95 or something. Longest 757 I was ever on. Might have been China Southern airlines, I don't recall exactly. |

And I just a recalled a new operator of the 757 here in North America: Allegiant (G4). They've got at least one now operating in domestic service out of LAS to points back east.
Config is all Y with 217 seats. I believe they will start operating the 757 to Hawaii from the western U.S. at some point in 2012 as that market is what they bought these used airplanes for. And this new G4 757 Hawaii service may just prove to make similar Y offerings on UACO appear to be absolutely delightful by comparison.....:-: |

I like these flights! They allow additional frequencies and additional cities to be served. That makes for m:)re customer convenience.
I think what you don't realize you are missing is seat width -- the 767 and 777 (and most of the Airbus widebodies) offer much better seat width, which frees your rear up to shoft around when it gets sore. And that is all without mentioning the more open-air feel of the cabin. 7 hours TATL on a 757 is a pretty tough experience; I find the 767 and 777 more tolerable (or maybe more accurately, they just suck less). The 767 is probably my favorite TATL aircraft because there is only a 1-in-5 chance you get stuck with a middle seat, and the cabin feels open without feeling massive. The 747 is nice and big but I think the seats are just as narrow (that's measured on my butt-ometer), and we haven't even gotten into the inferior IFE on a UA747...... |

I have not tried a CO 757 TATL but I used to fly Icelandair religiously when most of my flying was personal travel to visit Europe. They use exclusively 757's. All in all a substandard experince in Y.

I am willing to try the 757 once thought like i feel like i would need to be in business not sure how I would handle coach on that aircraft on TATL trip |

The additional routes they permit is nice but the cabins are a bit tiny for 6 - 7 hour flights. Plus, when I fly alone up front I like to be in the middle row so no one has to climb over me to get to the aisle. I have found the service in J to be more attentive in these aircraft than in the wide bodies. |

I can go either way. Flying up front on one of these TATL is like flying in the bubble of a 747. Small cabin. Feels exclusive.

I would like to experience J on a CO 757, but I'm not willing to pay the penalty (7 hours in 757 Y) to risk it. |
whenever I would fly up front, i generally tried to book the 757. The more personal/intimate service you get in the business first cabin by far is much better than the 767/777. And of course, the entertainment and seats on the 757 is waaaaaay better than the 767.

As a traveler do you enjoy flying on the 757 ? What is your inital reaction to the UA/CO 757s a. Upgrades inevitably clear. b. I've never had one break, not in flight, not on the ground, never. c. I like the exit row seat potentials, both in location and quantity, in case that upgrade doesn't clear. They remind me of what flying used to be like; a little more raw and tactile. They make noises and you feel the machine operating. They're not 'sterile'. Like someone mentioned, a Corvette. I love the rocketship takeoffs out of SNA :) If I had to come up with a negative perception, it's that they're (the UA ones) often appearing dated and worn. TBH, I don't really notice it that much. |
I flew XF on a PMUA 757 SMF-ORD a couple months back. Comfortable enough, but it sure was an old plane. The poster who mentioned the yellow interior and lav wallpaper was spot on. It felt like the 70's.
