If boarding a UA 757 and turning left - it rocks. Turning right, not so much.

Zero desire to fly it to Europe or in Asia however

is there a real 752 replacement? the 787 is along the lines of the 767 series, the 739 is high capacity and all but what will replace the 752 in 7 years?

Given weakness in 737-700 demand, Boeing my decide to start the size of the 737MAX to match the 737-800, 737-900ER and something close to the 757-200.

It won't fly trans-atlantic (but this is actually less than 5% of 757 flying worldwide), but would be able to replace the 757 on most routes.

On pmua it often comes down to the 757 or an RJ. The 757 is luxurious by comparison. I appreciate it now more than I did when UA used mainline much more than today.

It will be a dark day when the 757s go out of service.

Especially if united takes care of the aircraft they have.

Why would they start now??? ;)

But, more seriously, the PMUA 757s are relatively high-maintenance. Five are being retired next year.

Why not? If you enjoy it so much then what's the difference which continent you are on when flying it?

I Like Em...

with 24 seats in F, my UG rate is a lousy 100%!!! (-;

Was flying to LAS on a 752 several years ago. Mid way through the flight the pilot announces that they need to shut down the #1 engine. Hmmmm, me no likey the sound of that! But, the pilot also says "No problem folks as we can fly perfectly well on our #2 engine". The amazing part is that we still made an on time arrival & the landing was one of the best I have every experianced.

And as others have said, I like all that power underneath the wings. As a side note, could have used AS miles to go to Hawaii on AS next week. BUT, I ain't real comfortable on a Guppy* flying over that much H2O!

So, on a 752 from LAX>Kona this coming Tuesday (-:

*And to all you Boeing Homies that are just itching to respond about how great the ETOP's 737 is...please, save your breath, cause I ain't listening!!!

Love the 752. A tall skinny broad with oversized...erm...engines. What's not to love? ;)

The 747 is a beautiful plane, a real work of art. But the 752 is downright sexy.

Unless it's a PS bird and you are in row 9! The seat isn't great compared to the international business one but the feeling of having your own living room in the sky is priceless.

Love the UA 757s on domestic transcon routes because of the increased upgrae chance.

Also recently flew CO 757 CPH-EWR in the second exit row ad it was almost as ood as flying up front on UA.

I forgot the large first class cabin ;) I honestly have to say that is one the best feature of the 757.

Another perk of 757 is it can get into airports that the widebody is unable to land at.

It is very closely related to the 767 . the set up of the cockpit is exaclty the same.

The 752 is simply fantastic. I regard it as the best aircraft I've ever operated for many reasons.

A simple correction to your post. The 752,753,762 and 763 all share basically common flightdecks. The 764 however is a completely different aircraft. The differences are numerous. I've posted a couple links showing the flightdecks and as you can see, they're very different airplanes.

Of the 757 & 767, which is quieter up front?

If only the size were able to accomodate 18" wide seats in Y I'd totally agree.

The A319/320 accomplish this. The trade-off of course being no power and sounding like an electric toothbrush on takeoff...

Yep. Not at all. Pratts all the way.

They also do not have E+ as of today, the IFE in Y you get charged for on Domestic flights, and the seats make a boulder sound comfortable.

The UA 752's with the Pratts are IMMENSELY inferior to CAL's 752's with RB-211's. The Pratts are quite limiting. The 211's have quite a bit more thrust. Save the ETOPS equipment laking in the UA birds, the thrust differences alone are significant. The UA 752's to CAL's = apples to oranges comparison

They are very different aircraft. CAL's aircraft at this moment have considerably more capability and performance.

I think the 76 is a bit quieter, particularly the 764. The RR RB-211's on the CO 75's are a bit whiney....but worth it!

After 6000 hours in the E-145, I don't hear as well as I used to so perhaps I'm not the best judge of engine noise annoyance.

That said, the power available in the 752 with the RR's is awe inspiring. The vast majority of takeoff's performed on these aircraft are done with significantly reduced thrust. On those rare occasions when maximum thrust is used (contaminated runways, obstructions, runway length limited), it always makes the two of us smile. It never fails. It really is an amazing aircraft.

Are SNA takeoffs an example of this?
