The Old 747

They are indeed bringing it back. We were given updates for our flight manuals covering the old configuration. It will not be upgraded to IPTE, and according to what I've been told (which I encourage to be taken with a grain of salt ;)) it is flying domestic runs this summer only. However, I wouldn't put it out of the realm of possibility to see it on an int'l route here or there, but I think that would be only a last resort to avoid a cancellation.
I'm not happy to see it back either ... the interiors of the old ones were pretty bad by the end of their run.

Thanks for the info. Old config 747 C still beats any domestic F, and is at worst lateral from old 777 C. I would not mind to have my C-confirmed 777 domestic flight swap to the 747 later this month... as long as I can get the footrest to stay up. :)

More issues w UA 840?

anyone know whats going on with UA 840. Confirmed syd to lax july 19th. Got 3 updates about change of plane this AM. Happened to be on phone w desk bout upgrades and a future itinerary. Asked and they said just changed the plane, then changed it back, then changed again.

An email complaint yielded a quick 7000 customer apology miles, meaning that the upgrade to the Old C will cost me 8,000 miles and $50....not too bad I guess. Still would rather have the new C.

I stand majorly corrected on N194UA... :)

So I'm slightly confused now. Is there only 1 747 being pulled from the desert, and it is running with the old config, or are there 2 being pulled, one to be updated and one running with the old config?

The A319 painting project has been moving along nicely, N801UA-N819UA and N849UA are now painted.

So, just to recap:

N194UA is being pulled from the desert.
N194UA was sent to Pusan, Korea for a "heavy" maintenance check.
N194UA will NOT receive the new C/F seats
N194UA will primarily be for domestic flying and military charters (and serve as a "spare" aircraft for international flying on an "as needed" basis).

Hopefully once the busy summer flying season concludes (if the economy continues looking brighter), UA will send N194UA into the shop for the new C/F seats and keep the bird around. Otherwise, I suspect she'll head back to the desert in September.

All correct and I agree with your sentiment in the last paragraph!

The old config is now showing on my ORD-SFO flight in mid-September. Was showing new config until today. To add insult to injury, I was kicked out of 15A and cannot select any of the exit row seats, presumably because I am not 1P/1K or above. Do they really block exit row seats in premium cabins?!?!
