Yeah, I've noticed the new leather seats and LCD screens on some of the domestic 767s flying to/from Hawaii also. No nose numbers yet. It's nice to see the projectors removed. (not that it's limited to Hawaii/ETOPS routes, but that's where I tend to see them.)

How was the quality of the LCD screens? I would assume they weren't as much of a PITA to start-up? I remember a IAD-DEN flight I took last year. It took the purser about 15 minutes of turning on the projector, turning it off and letting it cool, and repeating the process, before the projector started projecting! You could tell she was pretty pissed!!
Did UA do anything to this aircraft in Y? I would assume they put the LCD screens in the back, but I wonder if they put in new seats.. My main gripe is that for some reason they installed 4:3 LCDs in front of the aisles and a 16:9 LCD in front of the center section. This meant that the 16:9 letterboxed content was displayed correctly on the aisle monitors, but stretched on the main screen. Correct aspect ratio + higher resolution is something I would really like to see consistant accross UA's newer entertainment systems, but I suppose it is a minor gripe in the scheme of things. As for Y, my upgrade miraculously cleared at the last minute, so I didn't get a good look. They are still cloth seats in Y, but beyond that I cannot offer much insight. |
The quality is much better than the projection system, but that, by itself, doesn't say much because the projection system was so poor and outdated.
To me, the main improvement is the removal of the bulky projector and the now unblocked air vents, and the fact the the new monitors tend to always work now. They did not change the 2 aisle monitors, and that's evident when you see how bad they are. -David |

was on N674UA 2 weeks back and it has the leather seats and new LCD screen in F :)
