It's a real get away from it all type place. There are some excellent eating places near by.

You'd need to fly into GLA and pick up a car there.

My Father dragged me to the Open back in July & Turnberry is indeed lovely. I believe it had just reopened after a complete refurbishment, the views are stunning. I think the 'little fish place' is called Wildings or something like that.

This was my 2nd time in this part of Scotland. Just 15mins south of Turnberry I attended a wedding at Glenapp Castle. The castle only has 15 suites so it's pretty quiet but really beautiful & close to Turnberry for golf/spa etc..

If you want some hills, and the possibility of a white Christmas I would suggest the Lake District - fly AMS to MAN and hire car. If you check out the Best Western UK website they will list all the hotels who can provide "Christmas packages" and they can include attending local Midnight Mass if required.

IIRC we did it five years ago on Lake Windermare - brill - and it snowed on Christmas Day
