This leaves many questions unanswered:

- Do TWA flight miles credited to AAdvantage count as base miles for elite qualification (as with OW partners and a few others, such as older Midway routes) or just as miles usable for awards (as with most other partners)?

- Do they get elite bonuses? If so, is it based on TWA or AA status?

- The release said "... existing Aviators account balances will be credited to their current AADVANTAGE accounts." What about Aviators miles earned in the future, from flying or from transfering in AmEx MR points? The transfer is, to quote the release again, "pending bankruptcy court and other regulatory approval." If it's only "existing" balances, is that as of the date of the release, as of the date of approval, or some other date TBD?

Inquiring minds want to know.

I think all will be as a certain date in future will all rules to be issued later. It appears AA will probably bring all miles over. And credit many of the normal earning methods (rentals, hotel, cr card). But I would guess once AA takes over, expect to earn AA miles under AA rules (lower minimum miles per segment, etc.). Best bet is to earn as many miles now and try to get 2001 status level before the AA official takeover.

Got this update from today's AA reservation agent TWA training from someone who was there:

1. TWA miles count toward AA status qualification.

2. The AA minimum of 500 mi./segment applies.

3. AA class of service bonuses apply: 25% for business, 50 percent for first.

(I forgot to ask her about elite bonus miles.)

Had my TW F flight posted to AAdvantage. Bonus miles and all. Base miles and segment count toward AAdvantage status.

If you are a frequent TWA flyer, would it not be better to get miles/segments on them and if reaching a status level - get the equivalent status from AA when they take over. Or do you think they will add segments and miles from AA and TWA together to determine status for 2002?

I believe on AA you get .5 mile toward qualifing for Status if using discount (less than full economy) fares and a lower minimum miles per segment. And 100K to get to top level, Executive Platinum. Versus full miles (or minimum of 750 or 1,000 depending on your current status)for TWA. So I would think TWA would be better to get if you can earn enough before the takeover. Or will AA try to "devalue" the TWA miles when considering for AA status??

It WILL be an interesting year.

Aren't there two ways to earn status on AA?
One is by points, usually based on fares and actual mileage.

So, if you are flying on discount tickets, your actual mileage flown counts, but if you fly on full fare coach or first tickets, you will qualify based on points.

Then again, its late and I could be wrong.

LALA,

Yes, your are correct. You can qualify with either real miles or points. So somebody flying business or first a lot can get to the elite levels fast.
