So, what did come up in your interview?

Personal questions can be asked, and just telling the truth is the way to go. Instead attempting to fabricate a phoney story that can be seen through, and seeing your application rejected.

It's been awhile, but I believe it was simply verification of some of the answers I gave on the app, such as countries visited, employers, that sort of thing. Definitely no commentary on my student status at teh interview, though once coming back through ATL I had a CBP agent ask if GE was worthwhile as a student. YMMV.

Where were the kiosks at SFO?

I tangled with an FA over the form yesterday.

She tried to hand be one.
I said "I don't need one, thanks"
She said "Everybody needs one."
I said "I don't I'm global entry."
She said "You still need one."
I said "I use the Global Entry Kiosk, its paperless"
She said "Everybody needs one"
I quietly took the form, which, of course, I didn't need.

Same exact thing happened with an AC FA (on a MEX-YYZ-BOS) flight. She insisted that I take Canadian customs form and I said I don't need it since I skip Canada immigration and exit to US immigration. She said she's been doing this for 15 years. I took the form and left it in the seat pocket.

Mine was why do I have two US passports? And then he talks to his buddy across the interview room and asks if he knew that State issues two passports (to which his buddy replies no). And he asks me if I work for the government (to which I reply no). Then he starts taking my digital fingerprints, asks about my job and I ask about his (always good to ask about their jobs since they will have something to complain--legitimately), hands me my (Nexus) card, and escorts me to the door.

It's always a good idea to take a form and fill it out regardless of GlobalEntry membership.

The kiosks might be out of service, and if so, you wouldn't want to be delayed while you search for, and fill out, a customs declaration form before you go to the crew line.

So, why not use some of that flight time and fill out the form at that point? Seems like a no-brainer to me. You always can recycle the form later.

Seriously, is there any harm in filling one out as a backup in case the kiosk(s) is/are down?

I don't think taking 45 seconds out of a >8 hour trans-oceanic flight to fill out the form as a backup is going to hurt, let alone simply taking one.

If you're adamant about feeling that you don't need the form, just tell the FA you got a form already. No reason to "tangle" with an FA and make the flight that much more awkward/uncomfortable for the FA and/or people sitting around you.

I used it for the first time a few days ago @ IAH, worked fine.

I didn't know you didn't need to fill out the stupid customs declaration card, you still have to do that for NEXUS, I wish you didn't have to.. its a pain.

I run into this off and on. As it turns out, the forms make nice bookmarks; probably why there's a blue form sticking out of my copy of "Invisible Man" right now. :D

I already have my "just in case" form all filled out except for the flight info and date. I just get irked when airline personnel can't accept a simple "I don't need one, I'm using the paperless kiosk". No question about "Oh, what's that, I haven't heard about it??" All they can do IS say the rote "everybody needs one". I wasn't nasty or confrontational about it, and indeed quietly took the form and left it on the seat when I deplaned. One of the bennies of Global Entry is that you don't need to get up to grab your carryon, find a pen, get out your passport, put all the information on the form, etc. I refuse to do so just to make some random FA happy.

I don't want to start a confrontation here, but I just had to comment on the last sentence, put in the quote box above.

There are a lot of things I could say to that, but I'm going to digress and chalk it up to some things being better left unsaid.

But as a GE and NEXUS user, I just want to say there are many other important aspects to travel nowadays, let alone things that go on in everyday life, to get bothered about. A blue card just isn't worth an elevated blood pressure... for anyone.

Not trying to be a jerk, just trying to put things into perspective.
