Is Global Entry worthwhile?

My first attempt to use Global Entry yesterday at LAX was a huge disappointment. The kiosk worked fine until i received the big black X on my receipt. I was then escorted to a waiting area where I sat for 20 minutes.
When a CBP agent finally arrived I got the full on bag inspection. Everything was removed and searched. The CBP agent asked "how many times have you been arrested" ummm like none. I would not have GE if I had an arrest record. The agent then proceeded to comment on my medications. He mockingly said "you take a lot of medications" duh. I have a medical condition that requires daily medications to control. I thought the agent's comments and tone were highly unprofessional and inappropriate. Finally, the agent finished his inspection and then had me sit in a holding area while he went to discuss "my case" with his supervisor.
Finally the agent returned and said "we will let let you go this time, now get out of here".
.... I Thought GE was going make my life easier not subject me to more CBP BS.

I did receive an email from GE asking me to describe my incident--you may also get an email. I never got to the point where I had to verify (on the GE terminal) the flight on which I arrived, it spit out the slip with the "X" early in the verification process; how far did you get when the "X" slip appeared?
PS: When I went for my GE interview, the agent noted that "X" can occur for "unexplained" reasons, and that I should always have a customs slip filled out just in case.

The one time (out of 9 trips) I got the big "X", I was also escorted to a special room (JFK, T8); but was out in about 5 minutes--the agent guessed it had something to do with fingerprints. [Instead of being cleared by the first available agent.] I was not subjected to any customs agent searches.

In my "X" incident, my passport was not stamped, but (2) was--a gold (or yellow?) line was drawn on that doc--the color I assume has some significance to the CBP agents.

Ok, so my girlfriend has one of those new GE cards, and I got the approval for mine today too.
Now both on the approval message in GOES and what gets received in the mail, it mentions the card needs to be activated. Can't seem to find that anywhere.
Anyone actually activated one of these cards yet?

There is a button on the main page that will let you activate the card:

Others have written at other airports they HAVE NOT been allowed.
Technically you should not be able to with kids under 14, but both times I asked the agent at the booth next to the GE and he did process them while i did my GE. YMMV

To clarify...
GOES = Global Online Enrollment System. This is the gateway to let you apply to programs such as Global Entry and/or NEXUS.
GLOBAL ENTRY = The program SD1K is referring to. Does not work for travel to/from Canada.
NEXUS = The program that gives you trusted traveler privileges between the U.S. and Canada only.

The Global Entry program is valid for travel to/from Canada if you are flying.

Note this is only for entry to the US ... GE in no way gives you expedited access to Canada, application via Nexus complete with interviews is required for that.
Welcome to FT, btw

Global Entry Now Available at Pre-Clearance Airports
I don't recall seeing any mention of this in the thread or even speculation that this might happen, but apparently GE kiosks have already been installed at YVR and YOW CBP pre-clearance facilities with YUL and YYZ coming on line by September. I assume more will be added, perhaps Dublin and some other airports in Canada. I don't see this going to places like BDA or NAS. Also, no benefits when entering Canada unless you're a NEXUS member who has gone through the Canadian border patrol formalities.
I won't paste the the text of it, but here's a link to yesterday's press release on the topic:

Fantastic news!

I wrote it up, probably 100 posts back LOL, about it at IAH. Twice I was allowed front of the line privies with my family at IAH.
Others have written at other airports they HAVE NOT been allowed.

But since it's not specifically addressed on the website's FAQ, I agree with you YMMV. I wish they would address the issue though.
I will look for your posts, thanks. This thread has gotten very long.
