Global Entry Violation - Keeping it Up to Date
Hi, I am a long time Global Entry user and ran into the following situation - would appreciate any help / advice from this forum.
Recently when returning from abroad, I was flagged for a random screen. The officer (in separate room) then asked to confirm my address, driver's license, and place of employment. Since I had moved a 1-2 years ago, and last renewed Global Entry 2 or 3 years ago, and did not update this information, it was all out of date. He said that I was "in violation of the program" and that I needed to keep it up to date or risk having my trusted traveler membership revoked. (I actually didn't know this had to be kept up to date, I thought it was only checked once every 5 years...) Ok, so I went into the new TTP portal (previously I'd only used GOES) and it's very unclear how do to this. Has anyone done it? 1) Address: is it sufficient to update the mailing address via the "update mail-to address" link in the portal? The FAQ mentions something about needed to visit an enrollment center to update your address. 2) Driver's license: it looks like there is a clear way to do this, but it results in being "submitted" for update and not actially updating. Now it's two weeks later, and it still shows my old driver's license 3) Employer: there doesn't seem to be anywhere to update this information. (I think the officer did mention that address and driver's license were more important). It seems like visiting an enrollment center would do the trick, but I can't believe that someone needs to visit an enrollment center every time they move? I submitted an email question to CPB but there has been no reply 2 weeks later. For my most recent trip, I actually used mobile passport instead of Global Entry to be safe (and found it to be just as fast if not faster since you don't need to use a kiosk). |

CPMaverick or anyone else with this same issue, were you ever able to update your passport info online? Just received new passports, was able to update husband's passport online no problem (he already had a login.gov account). Had to create my own login.gov account, though (I renewed before that was required), and with that new account, I have the option to update DL and address, etc., but not passport. I'll take my chances and drop in at an enrollment center to update if I absolutely have to, but if anyone else with the "new login.gov account = no online passport update option" issue has had luck updating online after waiting a bit, I'd much rather wait if I can. Thanks!

Yes, address changes need to be performed at an enrollment center. If the officer really could have revoked your membership because you were in actual violation of the rules, don't you think they would have? All bluster, that one, but correct in your obligation to update your residential address.
I did my update at YYZ (NEXUS) and my wife's at PHL (GE) when we moved. Both times it was over 12 months since the move and I had used the program many times in the interim. The CBSA officer at YYZ told me that it was fine since I had at least promptly updated my mailing (but not residential) address online to the new address; the CBP officer at PHL told me that I should be able to do it online (WRONG) and that she didn't need to do it in person (also WRONG) but took her passport and DL and went back into the office and updated it for her when I insisted. Nobody said a peep about risking revocation because we waited a year. Both were done without an appointment. I had to talk my way past the speaker at PHL (you know if you've been to that GE center), who also told me that she didn't need to make the update in person (WRONG). YYZ had a sign-in clipboard set up just for drop ins like me, separate from the interview queue. |
Incorrect.
While the front line CBP Officer could not have revoked GE, a supervisor could approve a recommendation and that is close to a certainty of a revocation. No, just because the Officer could have effectively revoked OP's GE does not mean that he would have. For the most part, CBP handles routine stuff just fine. An extra bottle of booze, a forgotten purchase. It happens. The key is to be honest about it and it's rare that it amounts to a hill of beans. |
We don't have random screenings/referrals for GE.
edit: and revoking a membership due to lack of updated information is a new one to me. There's some details missing. Don't sweat it |
Thanks for the discussion. Couple points to close it out in case helpful for others:
1) maninblack, I think you are right, it was technically a customs screen, so there was one question about whether I had some food items and then the rest went into the questions I described. 2) Updating documents - I received a reply from CBP. The word is that employer does not need to be updated in between, only at renewal. Driver's license renewal updates do need to be made online, but changes (e.g. new state) must be done in person, as with residential address. |
I found could update my mailing address and DL but not my physical address or employer. I went to an enrollment center to update the last two. I was berated and told that I should have put in an end date onto these fields and then it would let me update the information myself. I tried to explain that the web site did n:eek:t offer the options that were suggested. The agent basically refused to enter my information, insisting I could do it myself. I now find that my DL is still the old one, my permanent address is blank, and my employment is still incorrect. I guess I need to go back to the enrollment center again <sigh>. Has anyone else run into this?

I updated my information and paid for my GE renewal on 11/8/19. This morning I received an email saying my status had changed so I logged into my account and it showed a new expiration date 5 years out and no mention of a interview being required.
Today I also discovered that there was an issue with my driver’s license not appearing. When I completed my renewal on 11/8 I entered my current Florida license (it still showed my old NY license). I double checked twice to confirm that the Florida license was entered and saved properly along with all of my other information and I then paid for the renewal. People have mentioned that you can change your license information, what browser are you using? |
I'm having the same issue as some others. Just got a new passport. When I try to update info on the TTP website it allows me to plug in the new passport number and issue/expiration dates, but then when clicking submit I get an error message saying there was a problem with my information.
Have others with this issue seen it eventually resolve (I assume after a data sync between State Dept and TTP)? If not I'll just have to see when I'm at ATL during business hours next. |

New passport was issued Dec 26, so I guess if you're having issues with the online update try waiting 10 days or so for the State Dept/TTP systems to sync up. |
Update without issues now

Just an update here in case anyone comes looking - I tried updating my passport again on the TTP website today and success!

Although I only waited one day after getting errors. Passport issued December 30. Not sure if there was a system update, or what, but good to go now. |

I complicated the renewal process...
My GE was expiring so was my passport. I started the GE renewal process, then renewed my passport. I am still waiting for the approved for an interview, so I cannot do Enrollment on Arrival. I have my new passport, but you cannot update your passport number during the renewal process. I have a flight coming up in a few weeks. On return to the USA Assuming I do not have my approval for an interview, I assume I am not eligible for GE? Assuming I do have my approval for an interview, I assume I do the Enrollment on Arrival? Anyone do this (dumb thing) before? Advice? Thanks! |

I had to change my name due to marriage and could only do so by going in person to the closest enrollment center, CLT, with my new passport. If they take walk-ins for name changes maybe they will do the same for passport number changes? I called ahead to be sure that I could just walk in, and they said no problem. The officer just took a few minutes to update my name in the system and I was on my way. I would call your local enrollment center or an enrollment center at an airport you will be passing through, and ask if you can do passport number change as walk-in. Good luck!

I moved between states and received a new drivers license. I keep trying to update my DL info on the TTP site however it keeps reverting back to my old info despite giving me confirmation of my new info. Anyone else having issues?
