I have a space in my last name and have never had a problem with preCheck via Global Entry. UNITED's system does not always show nor allow the space and I tend to always get pre-check and I fly a lot more than the average bear. YMMV of course. That being said if you can make sure the airlines have the space I presume that would be helpful.

I have IDs with and without the space due to various system limitations. It is becoming less of a problem these days but sometimes can gum up the system.

ok, question about name on passport vs drivers license

Ok folks,
I just had my global entry approved (yay!!) but Im really concerned about a possible issue--
I got my passport several years ago and it states my name with the middle initial.I moved to NC a few years ago and on the drivers license it says your name with your full middle name--no exceptions. So the GE office told me today that when I fly domestically (which is all I do), and I put my trusted number in my reservation, it would raise a ton of red flags because the name is different on my drivers license than on my passport, and since I would use my drivers license to travel domestically it would be a problem.
I called the DMV and was told that in this state the license must bear your full name.
will this keep me from getting put in TSA pre check? Should I see about getting my name changed on my passport?
would appreciate advice from the voices of experience here:)
thank you!!

What name did you use for GE? I am hoping your full middle name as it will match your DL and is really what should be on your passport and flight reservations. And yes, I would get your passport changed to reflect your full middle name. Depending on how long is left until renewal, and the fact that you don't use it to fly, I would do it at renewal if it is close. If you have a few years to go, can it be changed easily?

The guy who did the interview said he had to put my GE name as it is on my passport--which is first name-middle initial-last name. My DL says first name-full middle name-last name.
my question is my passport expires in a year. is it going to cause a glitch in the system if I use my GE number and use my drivers license as id? does this mean I need to always travel, even domestically with my passport because of the name issue? I generally just travel with my DL. thanks.

I have mine all aligned, all have my full name including my full middle name. I don't remember exactly when I got them all aligned but it's been several years so I'm surprised you have a passport without full middle name. Guess if I were you I'd just renew the passport and get it aligned with your drivers license.

passport/DL/GE question:)

No. Why not use your GE ID card instead of you DL. I do and have never had a problem. Besides I doubt the TSA really looks at a middle name. Precheck is based on your GE info not a state issued DL. Relax.

I don't have specific experience with this issue, but my understanding is that for the trusted traveler match up, the name on the PNR needs to be exactly the same as was registered with GE.

In that case you have three options:
1. Make sure your name on any reservation is as entered in your GE application. Use your GE card as ID for domestic travel (that's what I do).
2. Make sure your name on any reservation is as entered in your GE application. Use your driver's license as you normally do. I can't imagine that a TSO will think John Quincy Smith (on your DL) does not equal John Q Smith (on your BP).
3. Make sure your name on any reservation is as entered in your GE application. Use your passport as ID for travel (or get a passport card).

Don't show your driver's license when you fly. I never do because I don't want to show my address to TSA employees when it's clear that I'll be out of town for a while.

You can use your passport, passport card, GE card (but many TSA employees don't know this) or other government issued photo ID for domestic travel.

As we now have a dedicated travel security forum on PreCheck and GE, I'll move this to that forum for more discussion of the OP's issue. Ocn Vw 1K, Moderator, TravelBuzz.

Thank you for your advice!

one more ??--my us air ff # has my first-full middle-last.....so this is not going to match my ge or passport--do you think I need to anything about that or just leave it alone?
and thank you!

the issue is that US AIRWAYS requires the reservation to have your full middle name on it. so now my name on the reservation does NOT match that on my passport or my new ge card--is this an issue, or nothing to worry about???

I just made a dummy reservation on usairways.com using an initial for middle name. It doesn't require a full name at all. Hell, Harry S. Truman's middle name was "S."
If this keeps being an issue just call us airways and tell them you need them to change your profile name to match your govt ID.
