Does TSA pre not qualify if you're on a one-way ticket... Or is it my JL code share on AA, that was booked using a travel agent, where my first name is my first name + middle initial (and it doesn't match my nexus details). My boarding pass has last name/firstmiddle without a space. Sometimes just last name/firstmiddle initial without a space between first and middle initial. My NEXUS has last name, first name and middle name with a space between first and middle. I never encountered any issue at security check point. |
Thanks all - asked Japan Airlines (since Chase UR Travel Agency couldn't/wouldn't do it) and they created a new booking.
Have TSA Pre on the NRT-JFK leg but not the JFK-BOS one [shrug] |

Do you have access to your new booking created by Japan Airlines? If affirmative, check if your KTN is applied to both segments.

Typed it in there, but not sure JL pushed it to AA (on their code share). Will try again to re-check-in on AA. Thanks
(my experience with Chase Ultimate Rewards travel department... the pain was not worth the 3x bonus points!) Totally agree with your comment on Chase Ultimate Rewards travel department. I also have learned my lesson the hard way. The only time I will use that department again is when I have a simple itinerary with very little chance of change to use up my accumulated credits. |
I recently booked a round-trip ticket from Tokyo to Guam on United Airlines through NH.
However, when I tried to check in at Guam, I noticed the absence of the TSA Pre mark. Upon inquiring with the agent, I was told that my ticket name was registered as Doe/JohnMR. Clearly, my name is John Doe, and the MR is just a title/salutation, which I thought was normal to include on a ticket. Is this a common issue? Since I had already taken the flight from Tokyo to Guam, I couldn't change the name in Guam. For future reference, should I ask ANA to omit the title when booking? |

Precheck suffix matching issue
My Texas driver’s license (DL) is real id compliant (gold star in upper right corner). It shows the name as Smith (first line) then John David Jr (second line) - suffix "Jr" after middle name.. When I renewed my US passport in 2016 there was no “suffix” box (I don’t think) and consequently my current passport (and the one issued in 2008) reads Smith (surname) John David (given name) - no suffix. When I applied for Global Entry/TSA pre-check I did not put in a suffix as I wanted global entry to match my passport and also I don’t think there was a place for suffix. My KTN has no suffix. My military (retired) id has no suffix and reads Smith, John D. All of my airline accounts do not show a suffix. My Texas DL (with suffix) has always worked when going through TSA pre-check including a recent trip in August 2023. In Oct 2023, traveling Austin – Richmond the little machine at TSA pre-check kicked back my Texas DL. TSA guy said I would have to go back to airline counter for paper ticket even though I had checked in online and had my boarding pass which I had printed at home. My boarding pass showed "TSA PRECHK" and my name was printed as SMITH/JOHN. Fortunately, my wife suggested trying my military id and it worked. Same thing happened coming back from Richmond to Austin - DL-no, Mil ID-yes.. Is the problem here the suffix (Jr)? Neither TSA guy had an answer. It is confusing to me as my Texas DL, with suffix, has worked every time in the past. Has TSA precheck policy regarding name suffixes changed recently? Any helpful thoughts/info would be greatly appreciated.
UPDATE (1/8/2024) - Suffix not an issue. Apparently all I had to do was clean off my DL. I guess it had something (oil, grease, dirt?) on the magnetic strip which interfered with the reading of the information. Works fine now. |
Does a name change affect getting Precheck with Nexus card?
I'm planning on getting a legal name change (first and last name). I have a Nexus card and get Precheck.
I will change my ID documents to match my new name. Would the act of getting a name change affect my chances of getting Precheck? Would it "flag" me? TIA |

You need to make sure your tickets match your new name.
I know about matching govt ID....I was concerned that it would somehow flag me |

I consistently have a problem with UA tickets. They append the MRS to the end of my name, but worse, I have a hyphenated middle name, and they stick the first part of my hyphenated middle name to the end of my first name. If you assume my middle name is Middle-Name, my boarding pass shows my name as Doe/JaneMiddleMRS.
As a result, I almost never get PRE with my UA tickets. I have to tweet the UA twitter team to have them manually fix it. My global entry has "First Middle-Name" as my "Given Name" with the middle name field blank (I followed their instructions to copy what's on my passport exactly, but in retrospect should've put my Middle-Name in the middle name field) I've used the following combinations for my first name on airline tickets and have gotten pre-check every time, including on United: First (with and without Middle-Name in the middle name field) First Middle-Name FirstMiddleName FirstMiddleNameMr. It seemed to me they're only reading the first certain number of characters of the first name to validate and ignoring the middle name, or else I think I would've had issues. But then I would've expected in your scenario, you'd have no issues either. It makes me wonder if you have a short (less than 5 characters) first name? |
I made a typo in my middle name (added an extra letter) on a flight booking. Will I get denied precheck at check in?

TSA check point "name not flight"
Hi All,
I have encountered few times at TSA check point that my ID or name has issues. Or my name is not on that fight despite my BP. It happened with both AA and DL so far. Not all the time, just few times. TSA could not or would not tell me what exactly was the problem, they just asked me to go the airline counter and have them checked. Airlines claimed nothing was wrong. I am trying to avoid this from now on. What can I do? I have TSA pre check which was on the BP. I have middle name on DL but my airline profile have no middle name. Obviously I would start putting my middle name on reservation. Another insight into my issue? |
