Will we still get TSA PreCheck if we only have our middle initials on the tickets? KTN numbers have been added.

TIA

Contact your airline and update your reservation's Secure Flight data to include your full name as matches your KTN.

I called JetBlue and they told me that they could not update the middle names as I bought them on the JetBlue website. I have one international and one domestic with them this year.

Did you specifically ask about correcting the "Secure Flight" data ?

I will call back and try with that wording. Thank you.

Not generally required to get PreCheck to still come up when subject to eligible check-in for PreCheck selection.

For a GE member with the following kind of name arrangement on passport:

Given Name James Robert
Family/Surname Goldsmith

the passenger with the GE PASSID loaded in the reservations' KTN fields can get PreCheck approval even when the ticketed name and secure flight info is as follows:

Goldsmith / James
James / Goldsmith
Goldsmith / James R
Goldsmith/ James Robert

There are a rather substantial numbers of Americans whose passports' names are a bit different and/or in different sequence than on say their driving licenses and still always have gotten PreCheck on check-in for eligible flights despite the name fields not being "exact matches" in the eyes of some.

As long as the first name and last name are exact matches and the birthdate info matches up with the DHS collection, middle initial/name being left out doesn't generally matter.

My Virgin Atlantic booking (made through Concur) shows Firstmiddle Last names (where the last name is combined onto the end of the first name). Does anyone know if this has been an issue with receiving PreCheck?

TSA PreCheck depends on Secure Flight Passenger Data fields, and does not depend on the 50-year-old+ limited length fields in PNR and tickets.

Make sure your SFPD fields are correct - IN YOUR RESERVATION - and you will get TSA PreCheck.

That worked! Thank you very much.

How important is your middle name?

My gf's parents booked us on a flight with them but didn't put my middle name on the reservation (they did however enter my KTN). Will I have issues getting through security or getting precheck? (my middle name is on my ID and on my precheck).

<deleted by moderator>

depends on the airline and route. If / when you enter your APIS data you can usually add middle names and then generate a BP with Pre on it.

Call your airline, and ask them to update your Secure Flight Passenger Data fields. The airline can correct Secure Flight Passenger Data (which are - First name, middle name, last name, gender, date of birth, known traveler number, redress number if any) for you. For the best chance of TSA Precheck, make sure Secure Flight Passenger Data fields in your reservation match your trusted traveler records - exactly. While some slight mis-matches will still work for precheck, for the highest odds of TSA Precheck, try to get everything to match exactly.

When you talk to the airline, do NOT say "I want to change the name on my ticket". Instead, say "On my reservation, I want to double-check the Secure Flight Passenger Data fields".

I travel repeatedly on my US passports domestically in the US and internationally to and from the US. I almost never have any middle name entered on my bookings when made despite my passports always having a middle name on them. I have never had that be a problem with the airline, and I’ve never had that be a problem with DHS/TSA/CBP; and I have had PreCheck for each and every one of my most recent 40 flights on a PreCheck eligible carrier. As long as the KTN was entered properly and the first and last name, birthday and sex are right in the relevant fields in the booking at time of ticketing or thereafter, I wouldn’t worry about the absent middle name and would expect to get PreCheck like usual.

Does anybody have experience with Global Entry having a full middle name and with other IDs (including drivers license and passport) showing just middle initial? The officer doing my interview decided to put my entire middle name on the card. Is this going to be a problem for TSA Pre-check? I don't plan on using my Global Entry card for ID.

With Real ID taking effect on 1 Oct 2020, it is best to have same exact name as on your birth certificate, unless your name has been changed since birth.

In California, one cannot renew his/her driver license unless name on driver license is exactly the same as his/her social security card as well as birth certificate/valid passport.

Yes, I have lots of experience of this even for people who travel with me in the same and separately ticketed PNRs with GE PASSID numbers entered into the KTN field in the bookings.

We have very high PreCheck-approved rates even when the name arrangement is like yours where the passport and/or GE card has full middle name but the ticketed booking and check-in and TSA ID check were done with the DL and left out the middle name in part or whole on the booking at least (and with the DL sometimes having more letters in the name field/fields than the names entered into the name fields in the bookings).

I expect no extra PreCheck-related problems anytime soon from myself and my travel party members in separately ticketed bookings who continue to do this kind of travel a lot.
