I'm in GE (and hence Pre-Check).
My Passport has my First Name, MI, Last Name My DL (NYS many years ago didn't have enough space for too many "name" characters) so it has only my First Name's initial, MI and Last Name. My airline bps match my pp. So far I've had no problem at TSA check-points. When I show TSA agents my DL, on rare occasion they ask to see ANY item (like a CC) with my full FN. |

Apostrophe and PreCheck / Global Entry
Apologies, as I know this has come up before in the forums (having searched), but I haven't found any definitive answers on the subject.
There are scattered accounts of Global Entry travelers (e.g. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/19432844-post1507.html) having issues because their profile contains an apostrophe but the airline is unable to handle same. Having just been granted GE myself but not having received Pre on my first flight subsequently (on JetBlue, which like American cannot handle apostrophes), I'm naturally curious. Are there any travelers in the audience that are aware of whether you can have an apostrophe in your GE profile but not the airlines and still get Pre? Really hoping I didn't waste my money and time with the GE certification if my airline of choice essentially guarantees I'll never get the benefit. |
Not that it serves as confirmation, but as an additional datapoint the return flight from the first trip also resulted in no Pre access. I had been hopeful that the first denial might have been due to the fact that I received my number after the airport had access to the record: the JetBlue rep mentioned this when she went in to alter my name to match the GE PNR.
But no such luck, as the return flight (booked separately and not controlled by the airport at the time of the change) was no joy either. Still hoping someone with an apostrophe or some other unusual punctuation can share their experiences getting (or not getting) Pre with an airline that does not support same. |
answer: Yes
I have a ' in my name w/ GE but not with airlines. Precheck comes through the airlines for me, and they use then non- ' with no trouble.

I don't have GE but I do have a hyphen in my name, which the Delta computer finds impossible to handle -- and I still get Pre-Check.
|
Exactly what I was looking for folks: proof that it's at least possible for me to get Pre. Much appreciated.

One possible non-apostrophe explanation for my failures to get Pre so far: I only just received and activated my Global Entry card today. They told me at the interview that I was live as soon as they approved the account, but the materials that came with the card implied that it wasn't until the card activated. No idea which is true, obviously, but we'll see what happens next flight.

If you did the latter, you apparently had no chance of getting GE. Some here claim that calling the airline would have made you eligible for TSA PRE prior to card activation, while others say otherwise. |
I entered the KTN in my profile, and also called the airline 1) to change the name on my booking to match and 2) to make sure the KTN was in the reservation.
So theoretically, yes, it was applied. Whether that's what actually happened, however, is unclear. |
Mismatch on name on GE and airline acts-what to do?
I rec'd my Global Entry card a few months ago and have used it a couple of times. Recently, I flew SW airlines twice and the Pre check symbol did not appear on my boarding pass either time. When I contacted SW, they sent a standard reply which stated that the name on the SW ticket and the GE account must match exactly.
I did some investigating and noticed that my GE card lists "Given Name" as "Mary Jane" and Surname as "Jones". The profile on the GE app asked for first name(Mary), middle name(Jane), and maiden name Landry). I no longer use my "middle name". The name that I use and is on both my driver's license and passport is "Mary Landry Jones" (first name, maiden name, married surname). As you can see, the three names on the GE id card (Mary Jane Jones) do not match the name which I use (Mary Landry Jones) and which is on my DL and passport. My SW profile contains the first, maiden, married combination which must be why I am not getting listed as TSA Pre check. Ay suggestions as to how I can fix this? I can't even find a phone number to call the GE people! |
Calling CBP won't help. Take your GE card, your passport and DL out to the GE station and do a "drop in". You are most likely going to find that they can't make the change and that you need to start over with a new fee.
Your GE application should match your passport down to every character and space and that should match your WN profile. |

While you can update passport information, you can't update the name without going in. Once it's been updated of course you'll need to contact SW again to update the Secure FLight Data name field to the name as it now appears in GE. |
Call the airline
I think I had this happen with a couple of FF accounts.
Forget if it was typos or adding middle name so it matched the GE card exactly. They just did it over the phone and 100% pre sucess. If it is something more major they will probably want to doc check. This must happen all the time with marriage etc. |
