I actually attempted to provide my DL as an alternate form of ID, but she just kept harping on my GE card picture and ignored the DL I was holding in front of her. It was kind of weird.

I just renewed my GE after nearly 5 years; I got my first GE card in the mail. Looking at it carefully, on the last line on the obverse side, "USA" is noted as the issuing country. But nowhere does it state the issuing agency.
On the reverse side there is an American flag with SENTRI.
Nowhere else is there any association with the card and the USA.

[You could probably:D get a more "official" looking card from "id shops" found in most major cities.]:D

My picture on the card isn't even taken straight on, so it looks very fake to those unfamiliar with it. That said it's will be accepted if you challenge it since it's in their book.

Ironically, my GE photo, taken with a webcam-type device, is a highly distorted image due to the officer's hand movement when holding the camera. It is very funny that in such an important ID, that more care was not taken to make sure the image was first-class.

She said no, it looks fine, so I trusted her. When I received the card, I found that I looked like a dopey moron (moreso than usual, anyway) and the picture looked like it had a little fisheye effect.

A few weeks ago, a TSA employee called a supervisor b/c she thought the picture did not look like me, that "the nose looks funny" in particular. Jerk.

Since I'm going to use my DL and/or (real:)) PP as my form of ID...if they had my (long deceased) DOG's picture on the card it would make little difference to me.:D

Maybe we need to start a separate "crappy GE card picture" thread :D

I've had comments from an airline agent about the weird shape of my head on my NEXUS card picture, but I've only ever had one TSA ID checker question the card as a valid checkpoint ID.

(That was at MDW a couple of years ago. I had an amusing contrasting experience a few weeks later at ACK; the agent there not only didn't question it, she asked if she could show it to her fellow TSA agent since they'd just been talking about NEXUS/GE because her mother had signed up.)

With pictures!

Mine also looks fake as I'm not really looking at the camera, and it looks like it was taken from a strange angle. Almost like a crappy high school fake ID

GE card required for security?

After passing through US pre-clearance at YYZ, I was denied access to the GE/NEXUS security line because I didn't have my GE card on me - is this correct?

Without the card, how would the security screening line control people and/or CATSA know who is or isn't GE/NEXUS? Boarding passes and passports don't indicate my GE status to line control dragons or airport security screeners.

a) because I said so
b) My passport has that stupid CBP sticker on it!

The stickers were "phased out" over 2 years ago--so many people no longer have them. Maybe the agent never saw one before.:p

?? I'm confused.

Folks who signed up for GE originally didn't get a card. Some didn't even get the now disappearing stickers. FWIW, if you didn't get a card originally, you don't automatically get one when you renew either.

I originally applied for GE in 2009 (no GE card then); I renewed a few weeks ago (I had to go for an interview). At the end of "interview" = new picture + fingerprints, without my requesting it, the agent said I would be receiving a GE card in the mail in a few days.

Since when are the security lines "GE/NEXUS"; aren't they NEXUS only in Canada?

I received a card about a week after my renewal was approved online.

I think he was referring to the GE line for preclearance. To cut the line for CATSA requires a NEXUS card.
