Well I was too cynical of the US govt - just got approval notification after 3 days. I guess being brown and middle eastern isn't a problem for them after all!

NEXUS canceled out by new passport but can't apply for GE
Hi all -- last year, I applied for a NEXUS card. At the time I went in for my interview, I (stupidly) didn't bring my birth certificate but I had everything else I needed and got approved. What I didn't know at the time is because I didn't show them my birth certificate, NEXUS would be canceled out when I got my new US passport (or at least that's what the NEXUS people told me). The solution: go to a Canadian border, show them my birth certificate and I'd be able to get a new passport without disruption to my NEXUS privileges.
Unfortunately, I had to get a new passport before I could make it to a Canadian border. It just wasn't worth the trip, so knowing what the Canadian people told me, I thought I'd just go and apply for Global Entry. However, I went to go and apply for GE and went to GOES to do so but there is no way I can because the system still thinks I have a valid NEXUS membership. Has anyone gone through this and know what I need to do to get GE? Or maybe my NEXUS pass will continue to work...I don't know but I'm hoping someone here can give me some insight into what I should do. Thanks! |

Mine also looks fake as I'm not really looking at the camera, and it looks like it was taken from a strange angle. Almost like a crappy high school fake ID

Is a Global Entry card required???
I arrived off an American Airlines International Flight into MIA and walked to Immigration only to encounter a very long line and when I made my way down the hallway I saw a small line and asked the Line Ordering Person (I think she worked for MIA) about Global Entry and she said do you have a card. I did not have my card with me, so she would not let me through and I had to wait in line with everyone else and use the Computer Immigration Officer rather than the Global Entry Kiosk, truth be told I didn't care, but I also didn't realize that I needed to carry my card either.

No, it is not. She was wrong. Send in a complaint to CBP using the webform. Make sure you provide the date & time and as much of a physical description as possible. Whether she is a CBP, MIA or contractor employee, it's a CBP function.

I recommend you carry the card. A relative arrived at ATL and found the GE kiosk printer jammed. No technician was available. He walked to an immigration officer at the counter.
Officer: "Do you have your GE card?" Him: "No." Officer: "Then how do I know you're GE?" The officer agreed to process a paper form without making him wait in a regular immigration line, but the officer said he would have to use the regular customs line at the exit. Theoretically the GE card is not required and I suppose he could have asked for a CBP supervisor but he had a tight connection (which may have been the only reason the immigration officer allowed him to bypass the regular line). |
I've never had to use, nor have I been asked to see, my GE card.

What about those of us that have a NEXUS card? We can use the GE kiosks, but do they know that?

The employee in question was being extremely strict and turned back a few people, not just myself, one Gentleman didn't take being rebuffed all to well and threw a bit of a fit, but eventually landed a few people behind me, so even he was unable to get through.
My gut, it was an Airport Employee who was given wrong info or didn't understand the info that she was given as this has never been a problem before. I placed my card in an empty slot in my Travel Case, so no big deal, but wanted to query the experts to enure that I was not doing something wrong. I will send in a note to CBP, but I have my doubts that it well get in front of the correct pair of eyes to make a difference. |
