OK, I am a current GE member... could someone walk me through the process of getting the GE Card? I went to the GOES site, logged in, but where is the option to add the card for an extra $15?

You cannot use the GE card going into Canada or Mexico through the Nexus or Sentri lane - for those countries you need a Nexus or Sentri card, and if you are traveling by air you must have a passport (into the US or anywhere else).

There are no SENTRI lanes entering Mexico. There is a current proposal to create SENTRI lanes for outbound inspections from the United States as those are causing annoying backups.

What extra benefit is provided by having the CARD?

  • You can use the SENTRI vehicle lanes if you are in a SENTRI-approved vehicle.
  • You can use the SENTRI pedestrian lanes.
  • You can use the NEXUS vehicle lanes into the United States.

(You may not use the NEXUS lanes into Canada).

It should appear on the top of the page after login, if you do not have any pending interviews (e.g., Nexus). If there is pending activity, it will not appear. You need to cancel/clear the pending activities to be able to order the card online.

  1. Login to GOES.
  2. Click on "Trusted Traveler Program" (the text).
  3. Click on the "Request Global Entry Card" button at the top.
  4. Verify and (re)-complete all your enrollment information.
  5. Pay the $15.
  6. Get your confirmation.
Then ignore everything the GOES website says and wait for the card to come in the mail 10 days to 2 weeks later. Go online and activate it by following the link on the GOES homepage. If you are a NEXUS or SENTRI member, you cannnot request a GE card.

Yup, I finally found the link after a few logins... amazing that you had to go through the whole application again. What an obtuse website the GOES is!

And what's more, both my wife's and my password had expired even though our GE was done in march 2011. And the password rules are a PIA...to say the least.

Did this earlier this week and same experience. Quite a clunky website. I had to do all the password stuff again, then re-submit my application, just to get a card. Now it's telling me to schedule an interview despite that I'm already GE approved for a year now.

I'll follow the advice of others on this thread and just ignore the interview request, and hope a GE card shows up in my mailbox in a few weeks. I emailed GOES Support last night to ask about this, but no response so far.

I sure hope their IT systems are good at securing our personal data -- the unintuitive web interface certainly brings that into question.

Very Confused!

I just applied for Global Entry, and my application is still pending. Once the application clears (hopefully it will!) I will be asked for an interview. Are people saying the interview is unnecessary? I thought that's where I get fingerprinted.

When would I get the card?

And what's the TSA connection that people mentioned?

Could someone fill me in exactly how it works (the process)? I only applied for Trusted Traveler, or Global Entry, and NOT FAST, NEXUS, SENTRI, or anything else. (I fly internationally, but never cross into Mexico, and rarely if ever drive/fly into Canada, so didn't think anything else was necessary. Did I do the right thing?) And how long should I expect to be approved?

For your GE Card, definitely ignore the interview part in GOES. I applied for the GE Card and GOES seemed to indicate I had received conditional approval, subject to an interview. I was confused and scheduled an interview about 1 month out. Then, about 3 days after GOES showed the conditional approval, the system updated to read approved, i. e., card is in the mail. So ignore the whole interview piece; don't even bother to schedule one.

If you are not a Global Entry (or NEXUS or SENTRI) member, an interview is required. Existing GE members ordering the GE card are not subject to a new interview though the system generates a request for one.

About 10 days after your interview if you are approved.

Ari, which is the program for land crossings between US and Canada?

As for everything else, I set up the interview for tomorrow. What do I need the card for if I'm getting a sticker on the passport?

And as a CO elite flying mostly out of EWR, the new Trusted Traveler for TSA doesn't really affect me, does it?

NEXUS, but you can use your GE card in the NEXUS lanes into the United States; you cannot use your GE card to enter Canada in the NEXUS lanes.

For land crossings; I answered that above, but here it is:

Not yet, but probably eventually. The TSA's 'pilot' program is slated to be expanded to other major carriers and their respective hubs:

TSA plans to expand this pilot to include United Airlines, Southwest, JetBlue, US Airways, Alaska Airlines, and Hawaiian Airlines, as well as additional airports, once operationally ready.

I imagine Continental will jump in at some point or do it as part of United.

Global Entry Card Activation

I received my global entry card but at GOES website I cannot see activate global entry card link. I called CBP and they said the link should be there as they've approved me for the GE Card.
Looking for suggestions. Thanks.

rsh913 Sep 7, 2011 7:11 am

Its on the main cbp page. Not inside goes. Oh well.

cestmoi123 Sep 7, 2011 9:09 am

You have to go here: https://goes-app.cbp.dhs.gov/

Activation link is about halfway down the page, to the right of the GOES login.

Note that if you're logged in to GOES, you can't get to the page referenced above.
