was there any issue due to the US government shutdown while you were at the YYZ nexus office? Are they open regular hours still for the Canadian side?

Anyone know how to get the US side to approve?
However, since his renewal application was submitted before the expiration of his current membership, he can continue to use his Trusted Traveler benefits pending the final approval of his renewal for up to six months after the current expiration date (source). |

I doubt that there is anything that can be done to have the US CBP approve his renewal application before the government shutdown is over.

Nexus Applications
I am a Canadian citizen planning on renewing my Nexus card online in the next few days via the US website. Are applications even being processed and/or the $50US fee charged to applicants because of the government shutdown? I understand the $50 fee is non-refundable so I want to avoid having to apply again and charged the fee again once the shutdown is over and the site is updated. According to the website they note that transactions may or may not be processed. Has anyone applied online in the last few days without any problems with their applications being received and the fees charged once they are submitted online. Any feed back would be appreciated. Thanks.

Canadian
Applied for First Renewal on October 18th, 2018 Expired December 2018 Still Pending Approval and waiting to see if interview is required....13 weeks and counting...I received a letter in the mail from the Canadian Border stating my request for a refund had been denied....I never requested any cancellations or refund. I called both the Canadian and American side to see if that letter had anything to do with why my renewal was still pending (this was during week 3/4) everyone I spoke to said there was no record of a refund request etc. I've read that some people have had to wait a long time for approval but seeing that renewals done in December have already been approved is concerning. |

Canadian, first renewal. Applied December 18. Approved, no interview required, December 29. I recieved no email notification; I just logged in to look today...

Hmm wow so December applications are getting approved faster than the SEPT/OCT/NOV ones (which are still in processing..)

Nexus expired mid oct. totally forgot. Renewed oct 31. In dec at YVR office said “conditionally approved - you just have to wait”. Online says “pending review”. Last renewal 5 years ago was painless with no interview required. I had TSA Pre on all nov and dec boarding passes, but it’s gone now. This is my pain point now. While waiting for nexus review -and who knows how long that will take - does anyone know whether or not I can apply for TSA Pre? Obviously already have Known Traveller number in a system somewhere. Dual citizen living in US fwiw. |

Also Canadian. Submitted application for renewal December 28. Charge against our credit card went through that day. No further updates so far, but happy to wait patiently since our cards don't expire for a few months.

Just chipping in with my experience. I applied for my first renewal on 30 October, and the status is still pending review. My current membership is expiring on 26 October 2019, I applied almost the full year in advance, so I'm not too worried.
Interesting to see that applications are being processed also during the shutdown, some of them really quickly. |
I was able to get an update from a family friend who has access to view the status of applications; I applied for my first renewal on October 18th 2018, my card expired on December 20th 2018. I'm going into my 15th week of "Pending Review" I was told that the Canadian side has processed my application, the American side did not receive my application until December 12th so 2 months from when I applied. With the shut down my renewal is in a pile waiting like many others. My family friend said I should be processed before March but again no guarantee. Hope this helps, if there is anyone like me I don't really mind waiting its just nice to know what's going on, its too bad there isn't notifications to give peace of mind during the process.

Applied for renewal Jan 5
Approved without interview required Jan 22. 12 business days. Was not expecting that to happen so quickly. |

My son had to get his card renewed. Had an appointment on 12/28 in Canada. The US side was closed due to the government shutdown, but the Canadians approved him. Anyone know how to get the US side to approve? Funny thing is that it is a renewal, however, he turns 16 this year so maybe that is why he had to go for an interview. The rest of us were preapproved for our renewals without the interview.
They did say he has a year to reschedule his appointment. |
