No, you only need to update GOES if your passport details change - as I understand it the ESTA is linked to your passport too so there's nothing to update on GOES

Had my GE interview in EWR last Sunday. Admission to the interview area was extremely prompt @ 11.40am on the dot. Three of us being interviewed in the same time slot.

The process took less than five minutes and was more of a formality. The confirmation email arrived by the time I had got back to my Manhatten Hotel.

I did mine recently in Otay Mesa. A bit of a faff finding the place (but the instructions they send you are clear) and I was actually seen about 15 mins early. Took all of five minutes and I was asked very few questions. Most of it was the guy explaining the process to me. I took various documents (driving licence, bank statement etc) with me but only needed my passport.

He told me on the day that I'd been approved, but I had to wait almost 2 weeks for the confirmation email and the status to change officially.

First Trip using GE

Just got approved and confirmed and have first trip in a couple of days to the States and wanted to clarify a few things:

- I presume no landing card needs to filled out?
- Do you still need a valid ESTA?
- How does the process work? Once your slip has printed out do you hand that to immigration officer? What do you give to customs after baggage?
- Have never used pre-check, so its liquid in plastics bags stay in carry on, laptops and iPad stay in bag? How about watches, shoes, phone, wallet, belt etc?

Sorry for the all the questions and thanks in advance for any answers.

No need for it.

Yes.

He/she only checks it, might ask you a question or two and gives it back to you.

You hand them the printout slip.

Yes, it all stays in the bag.

Shoes stay on, and I find everything else is best taken off and placed in your hand luggage/coat pockets.

At some ports (eg. IAD) you simply walk past primary inspection without any interaction with CBP.

Ah well, my port is IAD funnily enough. So is the inspection booth manned or just quick nod and hello?

At ORD it was manned at first and the agent would take a quick look at the receipt but then I think they decided that the exit inspection was enough. When it was new they may have been just checking that people had done it right.

The times I have arrived at IAD, the nearest booth was not manned, and I just walked past on my way to baggage claim.

Has anyone else just got an email from Border Force about it? I paid my money and got my code back in November, and was approved by the US in December, but a few minutes ago got this email:

From: Border Force <[email protected]>
Subject: Global Entry - your registration

Dear Gagravarr Gagravarr,

Thank you for your ‘Register to Apply for US Global Entry’ request.

A successful payment of £42 has been received.

What happens next?
....
Complete with repeating my name twice. Hopefully it's just their email server catching up, and I haven't been charged a third time! (Getting the second payment refunded was bad enough)

I just entered the states the first time using GE and got the splendid X. CBP officer did not know why either, but was absolutely more friendlier as I got escorted to the citizen line rather than the alien line. I still felt the 'breeze through' feeling but getting the X was not a bright start after all

Did anyone have this experience before too? My speculations for reasons is as follows:
1) I was on an F1 visa (for those that know, it might be that I-20 check is mandatory which essentially means I'll get an X every time...sigh)
2) My flight number origin did not match with my 'trip origin' (I was on a 2-leg journey)
3) Random pot luck???
