How long does it take for a Nexus application to get approved end to end with card in hand?
Just wondering since my application still says "pending review." I know there's an interview as well... For the interview date, you have to be flexible as the availability fluctuates. The closest available date for me was about 5 weeks out! It changes since people sometimes cancel their appointment so it is worth checking regularly. Later the same day I went for the interview I received the official acceptance letter and the card arrived about 1 week later. From application to card in hand, it took 12 weeks for me. |

More data point:
Applied in late October and received a conditional approval in early December for a total time of exactly 6 weeks. |
DW and I applied on 10/16 and had conditional approval on 12/7. About seven and a half weeks. Interview scheduled for 12/19.

I applied on 11/20/2016, got conditional approval on 1/5/2017. No appointments in Seattle until June, but plenty available in Blaine.

Of course, if you are traveling in the near future and want the benefits of Nexus, then it is better to get your approval before then regardless of when your date of birth is. |

I would time your appointment according to your birth date. I found it interesting that our Nexus is valid for almost 6 years. DW and my birth dates are in Sept and Aug. Our Nexus is valid through our birthday 2022. So if your birthday is coming up, wait to schedule your appointment until after your birthday. I suspect they don't want to make your Nexus valid for less than five years after first approval, so timing can be useful.
Of course, if you are traveling in the near future and want the benefits of Nexus, then it is better to get your approval before then regardless of when your date of birth is. This is so true. My family and I were planning a trip and had to choose the date we would be crossing in order to not have to make a special trip. Unfortunately, the appointment was a week before my birthday so I got the short end of the 5 year stick whereas my daughter gets 5 yrs and 10 months. It was good that I got it though since I needed to use it the following week for a funeral. |

Wow, Canada is quick in their approval of NEXUS applications. I applied last Friday, 1/6 and got a call from a CBSA officer this morning asking me some questions about my misdemeanor conviction and the circumstances that led to the charge. She then told me I'm approved on the Canadian end but that the US still has a 7-8 week backlog (so probably late February or early March before I'm conditionally approved in GOES). She also mentioned that I should bring as many documents as possible to my interview: a conviction certificate is required but officers may ask to see a police report or other court record.
