We learnt of this when we logged in to our GE accounts. Also if she signs up and pay for renewal today, will she get final approval or new GE before AUG 2021 when her GE expires? Or will there be a lapse? Thanks

  • No notices sent out - pax responsibility
  • She is eligible NOW to renew. You are making this more complicated than it is.
  • Log in via the RENEWAL link, answer questions, pay $100, breathe.
  • Read my last post - she will have a one year extension of her GE benefits from the date of submission.

Yes two different time/grace periods.

The TTP application (first time or renew) is active for two years from time of conditional approval to reach final approval (via successful interview). After that it gets denied and applicant will have to pay fee again to start another application.

The other grace period is applicable to renewals. Your current TTP membership privileges will be extended up to a year (your screenshot) past current membership expiration provided you submit a renewal application prior to expiration date of current membership.

Eighteen months according to this CBP National Media Release:

In addition, CBP will extend for up to 18 months the Trusted Traveler Program benefits of members who apply for renewal before their current membership expires.

I'm almost able to "renew" my Global Entry. If I renew within the 1 year mark, do I lose a year on the current expiration date or does that automatically just extend from my current expiration (2022)?

Renewals initiated prior to expiration date are dated 5 years fr:om the current expiration date (though a couple of people have reported getting an extra year). There is no downside to starting your renewal as soon as you are eligible to renew.

Great to know. Thank you for your quick answer!

Got mine and my wife's approved Feb 28th. Set up March 22nd interview at Ronald Reagan Building in Washington DC for both of us. Arrived on site 30 min before our interview time, didn't matter. Waived in by the Officer and out in 5 minutes. Two questions, finger prints and a joke about how the officer wanted me to adopt her based on the Countries I put as visited in the application (117 so far. COVID screwed me up from being at 131). Before I opened the door of the building to get out, got approved emails.

So July 21st to Conditional Approvals took 7 months.

Guess will revisit how things are in 5 years from now.

Looks like you used up your luck :-). I would rather use my luck on Lottery ticket win rather than a fast GOES approval..

I applied for renewal on March 22nd and approved March 24th. No need for interview at all. I’m good until 2026. I wasn’t expecting that it would go through this fast.

Hello Fellow Travelers:

I renewed my Global Entry on Feb 15, 2021 2 weeks post expiry (I know I should have done it before Jan 31 - life and Covid-everything catches up with you) -- I have now lost my 'automatic' TSA-Pre (had it for years before GE !!) and the CBP site is not giving any info on renewal timelines. Does anyone have any recent experience with this? My application is very straightforward, listed all the countries visited, no change in any other criteria. Will this be renewed automatically OR will I have to do an in person interview (which seems like a waste of time, I live near SFO but had to fly to JFK last year for my son's Interview due to availability).

Any information is very much appreciated.
Thanks,
IrishBoy

I suspect that since this is a new application vs. a renewal, they will need to do an "interview" at least to take a picture and get y:our fingerprints. Nevertheless, as you can see in this thread, even renewals are taking many months if they are not processed within a day or two of application submission. Good luck!

...that said, I just checked my renewal application and found that I've been approved (no interview required) after a wait of about 120 days. Others have reported similar timings recently, so the wait does seem to be coming down.

Thanks so much Xyzzy .. I'll sit tight and wait and see. I will flag all other GE cards (4) in my household to renew 6 months before expiry. Best, IB

Actually, based upon anecdotal evidence in this thread, even tardy renewals are processed as renewals, not as new applications, although there is a gap in the benefits. Some late renewals were approved without the need for an interview and new photo and fingerprints.

FWIW - Best advice is to renew 364 days in advance of expiration.
