Many years ago... I missed my flight from LHR to YYZ and the only choice I had was AI. NEVER EVER EVER AGAIN!!! Flight was 3 hours delayed, aircraft smelled horrible, the worst was seeing a cock-roach on the head rest of the seat two rows ahead of me!

I will not even touch the bathrooms subject...

FYI... For those looking to travel to India Air Canada offers direct non-stop service from Toronto.

What a nightmare! I hope Air India gets their act together one of these days. Almost every report seems to be negative.

Thanks for sharing.

Actually the non stop flights from YYZ to DEL will cease soon and will be replaced by YYZ-ZRH-DEL. Believe me Air CANADA is much much better than the dreaded Air India.

My flight AGAIN Delayed! its going 2:35 TOMORROW now! Can someone please tell me how this happend. I called Air India New YOrk Office, and they told me its delayed =due to tehnical difficulties. I also HEARD the tire of the plane was ruined, because they didnt replace after a long time, and it had to go to bombay for repair, so they sent another one from bombay whcih will then come to toronto.

The aircraft suffered a burst tire and wheel well fire upon landing at Amritsar on the outbound sector and as a result had to be grounded until that was fixed. By the time a replacement aircraft was able to ferry up from Mumbai, it was too late to operate the flight due to curfew restrictions en route and it wound up being delayed overnight.

THANK GOD! It has departed from Birmingham and will take another 6 hours and 50 minutes to reach YYZ. Then 90 minutes later we will hopefully board the flight.

Sit tight you'll get on it eventually until a further delay in Brimingham and them a further delay in Amritsar and eventually circling over DEL unable to land due to summer heat. You'll get there, son. LIVE and LEARN

I suggest you wait for the DGCA report into the incident to become public at the end of the year. You may find that the fault in this case will be attributed to the emergency services personnel who used WATER instead of FOAM or CARBON DIOXIDE agents to extinguish the wheel well fire, which caused significant damage to the carbon brake system on the 777. As a result, there was no option but to ground the aircraft and ferry a replacement in to cover for it.

Of course, its easier to blame the airline for everything.

So ankush09 should blame emergency services personnel for his delayed flight? Seems like that is what you are implying
His contract is with the airline, they are responsible for getting him to his destination, AI can blame it on its service providers but the customer is the one who suffers
you dont; need to be so defensive of AI, no matter what your affiliation with them

No, I am simply saying that the FAULT in this case was most likely not due to Air India's failure to replace tires but rather due to improper response by the emergency services. Of course Air India accepted RESPONSIBILITY, provided hotel accomodation for all passengers and shipped a new aircraft up to continue the flight the next day. Subtle, but key difference between the fault and the blame.

I flew business class from Hong KONG to Delhi on AI and it was a joke! Th eseats were so old fashioned , although roomy and teh flight attendants looked like they should have retired a decade ago!

However, I was just glad that I managed top get a seat , as all other airlines were full! Wonder why ? hehehehehe.......

So it is obviously perfectly OK for an aircraft to burst into flames when landing, as long as the emergency services don't do anything stupid like extinguish fire with water?
I would say that the problem started when the aircraft caught fire, although the repairs may have been made more difficult due to the way the fire was extinguished.
