Bombay Club Washington

Just around the corner from the Hay Adams is the Bombay Club, a classic Indian restaurant. For many years, it was awarded a Michelin star, but now it only has a plate.

The menu is quite classic.

The drinks

Delicious mango shrimp

Very good Mullugatawney

Nice Bengali Fish Curry

Lobster Lababdar

Dessert menu

Kesar Pista Kulfi

Choco Pudding

The check

It was a classic Indian meal of very good quality. Really highly recommended.

National Museum of African American History and Culture Washington

On the last day, we wanted to do a few more museums. The National Museum of African American History and Culture was an obvious choice.

We all know who doesn't like this museum, just like the exhibition at Mount Vernon. For decent people, on the other hand, it is an interesting museum about the history of colored people in America. It is not just about slavery and oppression (although that is of course a big part of it), but also about culture and achievements.

The Smithsonian African American musuem is excellent inside. The exterior architecture is not a favorite of mine, however. I am very fortunate to have the breadth of museums that I have in WDC. Glad you discovered so much in the area!

National Museum of American History Washington

The last museum we visited was the Museum of American History. The museum is divided into many different sections and has lots of interesting things to see.

Washington Airport

Then it was time to say goodbye to Washington, followed by a very annoying trip to the airport. Returning the rental car was fine, but then we had to take the bus to the terminal. At check-in, a large family was besieging the first-class counter (they were status passengers and weren't flying first class). Security was reasonably quick, and we stood in front of the trains to the actual departure gate.

British Airways First Class Dining Washington

An elevator takes you to what appears to be paradise.

Washington is one of the airports where British Airways has its own lounge. During the day, you can enter with a Priority Pass, and in the evening it is exclusively for BA guests (and, of course, other airlines in the alliance). One advantage of Washington is that it offers first-class dining. It used to be called the Concorde Room. It is a separate section, which is quite nice, but also nothing too special.

I was disappointed when I looked at the menu. What was on offer was rather meager. In the past, they used to serve lobster, but that was nothing to write home about.

No mocktails, even when requested. The service was slow, and I had to ask for bread. Unfortunately, the food that arrived was pretty average.
The bread was really bad.

Salmon rilette - I didn't think it was that great.

Honey-nut squash soup unfortunately quite tasteless, not really something you need.

Cumin rice with cauliflower I have very negative memories of this dish.

The vegetarian burger was pretty good.

I found the fruit platter for dessert rather presumptuous.

Unfortunately, the sticky toffee pudding wasn't much better. Lots of calories and not particularly tasty. Unless you like having a sticky mouth.

So: The food was not good, pathetic for first class dining. In comparison, American Airlines first class dining in Miami was world class.
Finally, let's take a look at the bathroom.

I wanted to sit down somewhere more comfortable in the lounge, but there wasn't a single seat available! So I went back to the first class area, although relaxing at the dining table isn't exactly ideal. All in all, a miserably poor lounge.

Ground Service a la British Airways

At least the bird had landed.

After the magnificent visit to the lounge, I wasn't really upset about heading to the plane. As expected with an A380, the boarding area was quite large.

Opposite were the usual devotional items, but I managed to restrain myself this time.

But then came the best part. There was a queue in the A380 for First, Business, and whatever else. Unfortunately, there was only one bridge for the A380. So first the entire upper deck was allowed to board, and then at some point the lower deck with First Class. So you stand there stupidly in a line. A dreamlike check-inthe flight is already off to a perfect start.
