Basilica of Saint Anthony of Padua
We had already visited St Anthony's Basilica in 2019, and this time we also paid a brief visit.
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...13e4508c98.jpg There are several cloisters and a museum about St Anthony (had lunch break). Of course there was also a statue. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...629f377e77.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...77536ada9a.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...fc24aa0a89.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...474a9b9ca6.jpg The interior of the church. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...b68c8b2405.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...c5ce2a90a0.jpg The tomb chapel of Antonius. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...a0202bc081.jpg |
Piazza Duomo Padua
The Piazza Duomo in Padua - somehow I forgot to take a photo of the façade of the cathedral (sorry, it gets worse.....)

Basilica Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta
Padua Cathedral is not the most spectacular in Italy.
https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...3f30ab4791.jpg It was a bit unfavourable that I had accidentally switched off the automatic mode of my lens. So you can bend the photos.... https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...ed5182dc92.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...18c3fd9a03.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...ee0a354b41.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...bcae62bb9a.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...4f129e4b14.jpg |
Museo Diocesano Padova
Next to the cathedral is the Diozaesan Museum in the Bishop's Palace. First we go to the Hall of San Gregorio Barbarigo.

Baptistery Padua
In addition to the magnificent Cappella degli Scrovegni by Giotto (visited in 2019), Padua is also home to the cathedral's baptistery. It is only accessible with a guided tour. I was the only participant, which I found amazing. After a short introductory film, we went into the magnificent baptistery, which was once the burial place of the Carraresi.

Esplanade Tergesto Montegrotto Terme
Time for the second dinner. Once again, it was of good quality and there was always some variation in the buffet offerings.

Esplanade Tergesto Montegrotto Terme
I hadn't even written about breakfast yet. The selection was generous, the quality varied. While there were some good pastries, the prepared eggs were not particularly appealing. Juices were cheap ready-made products.
You could also order from a menu, sometimes for an extra charge. It was not entirely clear why it cost what. Whilst I understand a surcharge for caviar, it stops at Frensh Toast. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...ea62a7a3ae.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...00539de4ba.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...0389acac8f.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...5f8f95d072.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...5ca908607a.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...39e4bbeb6e.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...00db972192.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...6f8c51cdc9.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...c0af488039.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...20072576e7.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...a6c265f8d4.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...bcd90a5eb3.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...528c08e1c2.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...1ea070b39e.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...ff4b2146f8.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...f256bc8b07.jpg The breakfast was nothing famous, especially the quality did not appeal to us. Nothing else was interesting either. At first I thought it was a joke when I was told that we could have breakfast in our bathrobes. In fact, some guests did make use of it. Everyone can probably guess what I think of this.... |

Castello Estense Ferrara
The next day was all about Ferrara. The Castello Estense or Castello di San Michele was the seat of the d'Este family in Ferrara.

Palazzo dei Diamanti Ferrara
Warning: Anyone expecting diamonds should stop reading. The next art museum is waiting for everyone else.
The Palazzo dei Diamanti got its name because the stones on the façade are reminiscent of diamonds. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...09b9c749e9.jpg At the entrance, you can choose between a lift and a staircase. Even with the combined ticket for the Ferrara museums, you have to buy your tickets downstairs, so you have to walk some paths twice. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...8ab1a2fadb.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...adbcf036e1.jpg The Pinacoteca Nazionale di Ferrara offers works by artists from Ferrara and the collection is relatively extensive. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...39b2d39795.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...523115a3ec.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...0d1e94d501.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...bc6a18ee63.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...1c9838b252.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...4cebc8cdb2.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...94bf7d1087.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...ed323fed01.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...14ee476608.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...cdf93cd24c.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...a0fc155418.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...f9fb8cce92.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...f3e6a28c9b.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...897e43b852.jpg |
L´Era Glaciale Ferrara
As we had some time to kill, we got ourselves an ice cream.
https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...19918fbedb.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...1f18ea8b76.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...f54562519a.jpg Whilst it actually looked quite good, unfortunately it wasn't. Totally oversweetened, simply not delicious. Unfortunately, it was nothing. |
What a fabulous report, thank you!
