Castello Scaligero Malcesine

The next morning we travelled to Malcesine. The journey is long as the ferry didn't run and we were allowed to drive once around the lake. In Malcesine we went to Scalier Castle.

There is not an infinite amount to see inside. There is modern art on display, but otherwise you have beautiful views from the tower and there is a small natural history museum. There is also the Goethe Room, because the castle is known from Goethe's travelogue. He was supposedly arrested here as an Austrian spy.

San Viglio

San Viglio is a small complex with a villa (not open to the public), a hotel and some old buildings. Quite nice, but contrary to what my travel guide says, it's not a must-see.

Santa Maria Assunta Garda

Our next stop was the town of Garda, where we first went to the Santa Maria Assunta church.

Garda

The tour of Garda began on the promenade and continued in the town centre. Everything was pretty, but nothing more. Garda is not the highlight of the lake.

There is still a castle and a Romanesque church at the harbour, but it was already late and we were tired.

Villa Feltrenelli

We had various restaurant alternatives in mind for the evening, whereby on Monday almost only hotel restaurants come into question. Not least because of the traffic, we decided to simply go to the main hotel. The restaurant was empty.

It was less tam tam, but we liked the selection better. This time we were really satisfied.

Original language is German - "mit weniger Tamtam" translates as " less fussy", "with less ado", or "without great fanfare"

Thanks for the explanation. I thought it's also used in English.
To clarify what I meant: For example, the bread was suddenly served in a basket; at Tastig, individual bread courses were served on small plates. Otherwise it was all less complicated, but we enjoyed it better.

Thanks for that. In English a tam-tam is a very large orchestral gong (think of the J. Arthur Rank movies intro). I'm glad to learn the German idiom.

Villa Feltrenelli

It was time to say goodbye. Our luggage was collected and waiting for the car.

How was it now? Really good. Overall, I was very happy with Villa Feltrenelli, they do a lot of things right here. I can only warmly recommend it, it's worth it.

Arena Verona

We stopped off in Verona on the way to our next hotel. Our first destination was the Arena, near which we parked. From the outside, it looked like many arenas.

Inside, you could see the event seating, even though nothing was taking place during our visit. You can walk up the tiers and look over the edge into the city.

Without a doubt worth seeing, even if it doesn't take an eternity to visit.

It looks like one of those places where you can enjoy a nice concert without feeling too serious about it. I like it.

I definitely have to go to a performance. I think the style has changed a lot in the last few years. If you see photos of arenas from the 90s or earlier, you'll hardly see a man without a suit and tie. In current reports, however, you don't see any men wearing a tie.

That is, I think, a general (generational?) change. I like me a tie and am not overly fond[of the change], but I do have to say, it is what it is. At least if people maintain decorum, relative to time and place, I can stay silent. Even if the move from being sent to get a tie to enter a bank to being the only one with a tie in the bank is... painful, in it's way. But then, after all, I don't own a bowtie, and it's unlikely I ever will.
