You've got that right! It is closer than Florida, a lot more pleasant, and one can leave home in the early AM, get the first flight over, and be beaching by noon.

From where we live, it takes up to 3 days to get to Hawaii, but it became one of those “must try that” events. We ended up doing 2 trips to Honolulu and having decided we weren’t really moved by it (apart from nice warm weather) we gave Oahu a shot. From a Brit’s perspective, it was a LONG way to go for an expensive and not-very-special experience. For those based on the US West Coast, I’m sure you see things differently! There’s a lot more places on the Planet that, for us, deliver more of what we prefer.

TR: JER-HNL with BA and AA by two Senior Citizens

TR: Older people travel too - JER-HNL again!

Aloha again, to OGG with BA & AA in the good seats.

As someone that lived in Florida and traveled to Hawaii for business and pleasure its too damn long for vacation. Maybe once to check it off the list but I could leave Palm Beach and up on the Bahama Bank in a couple of hours. As for costs Hawaii is pricing itself out not that people won't travel there they just will do it less and spend less. We use to go over for a long weekend not anymore

So sad you had to eat the sandwich. I can't believe they offer that to their business class passengers. Thanks for getting the warning out to others.

I never want to see anyone lose their jobs but lots of talk that United might eliminate in house catering. If they do, I sure hope the new suppliers come up with something that is edible - at the right price point so we don’t spiral further in the offerings.

This - it’s too easy to get complacent with just staying in CA for vacation combined with annual mAui visits. if I lived in Jersey, I would be satisfied with uk and the rest of the Europe continent.

Agreed - as much as I would enjoy Disney world, it’s just 1/3 the cost to fly to Anaheim combined with much less time. Plus if I lived in FL, there’s the full Caribbean to enjoy once getting enough of the state. The idea of connecting 5 hour flights is less enjoyable.

We clearly prefer more traveling than the average! And having previously lived in UK for 60 years, and been to Rest Of Europe on quite a few occasions during that timeline, our horizons are much wider. Long journeys don’t bother us, but warm/hot weather is essential ... not always easy to find reliably in much of Europe!. So apart from HI, we do VA and AZ quite regularly. Loads of Caribbean, and Mediterranean, and pre-Covid an annual South Africa.

American residents are lucky. You have a huge and amazing country that offers all the climate and geography variations almost anoyone could wish ... while using the same currency and language!

Wow, fun to reread this report and to think, wow how lame all the time, testing and wrist band BS wasn’t really necessary. 😜 The ending comments were enjoyable and still give chuckle. See you on the road.
