May 1998, I was the only passenger on a CO (Colgan) flight IAD to Bluefield WV. This flight had a scheduled stop in CRW. I joked to the co-pilot that I hoped there was no one boarding in CRW, so we could go right to BLF. Co-pilot says "As it turns out there isn't, but we have to stop there anyway." I thought he was joking and chuckled a little. Well the joke was on me because about an hour later we landed in CRW, to pick up a total of 0 passengers. To make matters worse, we were delayed out of CRW due to fog for about 3 hours. I asked the co-pilot why we had to stop when there were no passengers. I thought maybe to pick up cargo or something like that. Nope, just Colgan's policy.

I just flew SLC-SUN this morning on an EMB120 Brasilia. I was the only passenger on the flight. It was a bit weird. Especially strange when the FA still went through all of the announcements as though the plane were full. I know they have to, but it felt weird.
Has anyone else been the ONLY passenger on a scheduled flight? (Obviously charter flights are excluded!) Also, a good opportunity to join the mile high club... with yourself. |

Did you get upgraded to first class at least?

Perhaps the other passengers who would have been on this flight had heard that the Embraer 120 is not required to survive the catastrophic failure of a single engine. Rather than requiring Embraer to fix the design, the FAA waived the requirement after a crash a few years ago.

I also found an incident where the engine failed and the propeller embedded itself into the wing. But that would be different. |
I flew UA ORD-(W. Lafayette)-Terre Haute on a little prop plane in early '98, maybe the last flight of the evening...everyone got off at West Lafayette except me.
I think I was the only person on an early Sat am flight IAH-CLL in '04, too. Flew CO IAH-LHR shortly after Heathrow service started (and while CO was operating 3 IAH-LON daily flights) and there were maybe 10 in coach on a Tuesday evening. |
I have a couple of times one was Monroe, MLU to MEM it was the last flight out and running late. Every one else was put on other airlines. Last year I was on Key West to TPA by my self same deal it was running late and no one could make the connections

Does US Helicopter from JFK to JRB count?
In that case, I was the only passenger on that flight - checked in at the gate, got on a van, driven to the chopper, got on, door closed, in the air 2 minutes later, on Wall Street 15 minutes later. Was pretty fun. |
Alone in the sky
Almost twice. Once, decades ago, a colleague and I flew back from Syracuse to LGA on an AA BAC111 as the sole passengers. The pilot invited us to be in the cockpit as long as the seat belt signs were off and it was a crystal clear night so the views were fantastic especially as we got nearer to New York. The second time, sadly, was shortly after Sept. 11, when I had to go to Toronto on business and flying back at mid-day, again on American, I was the one of a few passengers and the only one in first (thanks to an EXP upgrade)

Well, I guess that's what's written here -- just can't help expressing my amazement... (I did once fly in the cockpit for most of the flight up to and including touchdown... but that was Aeroflot in 1996.) |
Close but no cigar, in January of this year I was one of 4 on a CVG-DTW flight, the 4 of us included an off-duty DL pilot, so only 3 paying passengers.
Flying time was only 45 minutes or so iirc, I still thought it was funny that the FA couldn't be bothered to do a drink service.:( |

To which incident are you referring? I found an accident where the #2 engine went into full reverse and caused an accident. Full reverse would be extremely difficult for any twin engined aircraft.

i have booked my partner on award travel from MCO to PKB on a couple of occasions. At least twice he has been the only PAX on the IAD to PKB flight. He loves it as the FA usually points out where the snacks and beverages are. The FA then tends to just read a magazine while he helps himself.

I have a MSP-ALO flight coming up where the seat map looks good, just me and my travel partner.
