I don't sense BertG having any disdain or scorn. His message was polite, wise, and sound. But the question is "How would you have responded to this?", so 90% of the discussion here is OT.

MYOB is more than reasonable.

No one suggested that my weight (less than 400lbs) caused a plastic chair made to support small to medium size people to break at a SAN function earlier this year

I'm really grateful, too, as it was horribly embarassing and painful.

So you think the poor woman now has heart disease because no one confronted her right then and said that her weight broke a chair? Maybe the chair was defective and her weight had nothing to do with it. Maybe she eventually sued the shop owner and now owns a chain of ice cream shops!
