Cadbury Crunchies
Victoria Bitter beer |
aero chocolate bars from Canada and the UK.
Cappy's fruit juice cans - I lived on them in Istanbul - would love to find them in the Chicago area, much better than the Polish fruit juices that I drink now. |

My wife buys silver polish in France. Much better than what is available in the United States. In Canada you can buy a product called Peek, which used to be available at American Sam's Clubs. It's pretty good, too, but no longer available here.
next time you or your wife are in Germany : try " WENOL " |

With all this talk about food - in customs they always ask if you have brought any food items back with you. Supposing you did, is there some kind of limit to it? Do they not let you bring it in?
Their INS website has info, mostly don't bring meat and fruit into the US. |

This reminds me of two things my dad always had to bring back from his frequent trips to his company's HQ in Germany when were living in the US:
- the original German Fanta orange soda (the American version tastes terrible, way too sweet) |

You can get this in the US at certian times of year the coke with sugar is kosher for passover. In a big supermarket in march and april look for a slightly different package (yellow cap on the 2 liters) and check the ingrediants or try a small jewish grocery store.

Orangina has similar taste (avail. in the US) and has less colorings.... give it a try. I also like the European Fanta.

Juvenile, but hey. Makes me think of a time a buddy from the UK literally fell on the floor of the shopping mall, he was laughing so hard when he saw the sign for "Fanny Farmer Chocolates." ^ |

For those who like to drink, Absinthe is truly amazing stuff that puts any other alcohol to shame.
Some of my "items" (besides Absinthe): Anywhere in Europe: Fisherman's Friend (mints) Portugal: sardines spread, green wine UK: any and all Cadbury chocolate goodies France: merzer cheese, fois gras (canned) US - there are lots of impossible or very hard to find things in Europe: buffalo sauce, crest toothpaste, shout (stain remover), dunkin' donuts coffee, tide pens Netherlands: stroopwafles AMS (the airport): best place to buy sunglasses |

I spent my entire week's trip in England trying to find Wispa bars. No luck - heck, most people had no idea what I was even talking about. Picking up a last minute bottle of soda just as I was making my way to the gate, the news stand at the airport had them!
I also completely forgot to try out Double Cream when I was over there. They're available everywhere now ! |
Oh gee, so they wait until I leave to reintroduce them!
Anyway, you can find Aero bars over here in a lot of grocery stores - many times they have them with the international foods, though, so they can sell them for twice the price. I prefer Wispas, though. Anyone remember Chocolite? I think it was the same thing, more or less. How about magazines? I was kind of surprised to find out how many magazines they import over to the United States now, particularly car magazines. Still, I make a point to visit a magazine stand and a good bookstore. |
Things from Europe I miss when in the States:
- True fresh draft Guinness! (They have something in the States that looks sort of like it, but it doesn't taste like the "real stuff".) - Czech Budweiser. Things from the States I miss when in Europe: - Act II Caramel Microwave Popcorn |

I always buy a supply of Urgo band aids when I am in Italy or France. Those adhesives are superior to the J&J brands in the U.S.
Apparently, they will soon be coming to America. ^ www.urgo.com |
