Coffee from Germany (Jacobs). The same brand from another country doesn't taste as good.

This reminds me of two things my dad always had to bring back from his frequent trips to his company's HQ in Germany when were living in the US:

- the original German Fanta orange soda (the American version tastes terrible, way too sweet)

- coffee, usually Tchibo or Eduscho, because what was sold in our local supermarket (mostly Nescafé or Folgers) was practically undrinkable

Not in the Prairies or Northern Canada:

1. pigeon peas
2. ting
3. frozen soursop
4. flan
5. fish tacos
6. land crab
7. conch
8. sweet starfruit
9. Goombay Punch. :)

PS: I know what you mean with the Badoit and know the site you reference. They are not an authorized reseller and their shipping prices are ridiculous. I once heard a story that Badoit isn't sold in the US because the French want it for themselves :)

While Badoit is not heavily marketed in the U.S., it is available at Rodman's Drugs on Wisconsin Avenue in Washington. While Rodman's is a drug store, it also has a wide variety of other products including many international packaged goods (cookies, crackers, chocolate, canned goods, mustards, vinegars, olive oil, etc.).

My wife and I now have a list of a few things that we have to pick up during our travels because they're difficult to find here at home. I was curious to know what's on other people's lists:
  • Axe Roll-On Antiperspirant/Deodorant I ran out of my usual stuff while on vacation in New Zealand and got this because it was the only thing available in the nearest service station/convenience store. I decided I really like it and, while the Axe brand is available in the US, they don't sell the roll-on here. I now have a 1.5 year supply stashed away in the cellar.
  • Badoit My wife loves the stuff. I like it as well. As mineral water goes, it has a pretty high mineral content, but it really tastes wonderful. I finally found a place on the web that will sell it buy the case, but it simply can't be found on store shelves here. Obviously, water isn't something you can easily bring back to horde.
  • Boots Paracetamol with Codeine You can certainly find the formulation in the US, but it requires a prescription. I travel through LHR often enough and the tablets are cheap enough that it's just easier to get it there. Since they'll only sell you one box at a time, I hit just about every Boots in LHR while transiting. Bad headache? Take one pill and it's gone. Really bad headache? Take two and its gone. The formulation seems just right to keep you from getting drowsy, too.

What's on your list?

You can get acetominphen and tylenol with Codiene at any pharmacy. They keep it behind the counter but no prescription is required.^

From the UK - Day Nurse and Night Nurse.

For some reason they work like magic with my wife. Therefore they are magic for me:D

Axe has a weird world marketing/distribution scheme. Luckily Mexico is close by. There you can find the roll-ons, along with the Axe DRY spray (they only carry the Axe Dry sticks in the US, not the dry spray).

And for the Timtam lovers like me, surely there's a Cost Plus close by? Cost Plus OK, so the box doesn't say Timtam, but them's the real things!!

You can get this in the US at certian times of year the coke with sugar is kosher for passover. In a big supermarket in march and april look for a slightly different package (yellow cap on the 2 liters) and check the ingrediants or try a small jewish grocery store.

Marathon Man Oct 16, 2007 7:28 pm

some of the cheeses and coffees in the Netherlands.
:)MM

of course over there you cant find kelloggs pop tarts and stuffing in the box used with chicken and turkey dishes (let alone finding any good turkey)

sinanju Oct 16, 2007 9:14 pm

I should have mentioned Danish pilsners... all of the locally available versions are brewed in Canada.... not that there's anything wrong with that. It's just not the same.

But, like water, not something that's easily brought home and horded.
