Rio to Buenos Aires - So @!# $$$$$

Why are fares from Rio to Buenos Aires over $350, and a n/s over $400? I am trying to fly on 9/27, one way (tried r/t also), and the fares are just ridiculous. Anyone have any idea of how to find some lower fares?

try Gol airlines

Hi there,

I just visited Rio and had similar "issues" finding reasonable fares around Brazil. Expedia and similar search engines certainly aren't the whole story, though. You should look at Gol airlines (http://www.voegol.com/), I think they have flights from Rio to Buenos Aires around $300 n/s, and there may be better deals on their website, too.

Smile Try an Agent in Brasil

Yes, do try GOL. Also, my brother bought a ticket when in Brasil for BA and it was around 300 - try a travel agent there if you can.

GOL's site is quoting about the same as Aerolinas Argentinas for that date..... I guess LCCs haven't made it to S.America yet!

Last year when I had to fly from GRU-EZE I just used my United miles on Varig for a RT and used it as an one way.

Because PHL-ALB are about the same.

Yeah, I don't understand why people think airfares are so "ridiculous". It's an international flight with limited carriers flying the route, and the distance is still 1240 miles. It's a relative bargain some would even say.

If you haven't purchased tickets yet, you can always fly Varig or Aerolinas Argentinas to EZE and get a stopover in Rio.

For $200 more, one could fly EZE-MIA-EZE and get nearly enough points for an EZE-GIG award and be 10% closer to EXP on AA or completely fast tracked to AA Gold.

I'm trying to figure out what do getting from GRU to EZE on an upcoming trip next January

One thing I noticed is that if you buy a ticket GRU/CGH-IGU for ~87 bucks on TAM and IGR=AEP on Lan Argentina ~90 bucks, not only do you get to save a lot of money but you throw in a trip to Iguazu Falls

That's a great suggestion.

I might have to consider package deals to/from/via Florinopolis for a similar kind of thing.

Doing a quick search on ITA/LA.com

The RG Flight 2162 is $139 GIG-IGU
and LA 4023 is $80 IGR-AEP
(also TAM flight 705 is $76 AGT-EZE)

total $219

Problem is, RG flight arrives 5:30pm, and LA flight leaves at 2:50.....I'm trying to see if there is any other way to do all the flights in one day....just the timing of things throws it off and having to overnight would in a sense take away any savings you'd get...

Of Course a side trip to the Falls and one to Ciudad del Este for sketchy/cheap electronics could enhance the entire experience

If one has lots of trips to "Arab" countries -- and in the minds of more than a handful of US DHS bimbos that's a lot more than Arab-majority countries -- a visit to Ciudad del Este (or Paraguay in general) will increase the odds that you get haraSSSSed going forward from US airports.

You don't need to get your passport to enter Ciudad del Este. Just hook up with a taxi driver in Argentina or Brazil. Ciudad del Este didn't become a smuggler's paradise for no reason.
