The Jules Verne, Paris

Inspired by Bruce Sterling article "Spirit of Mega" http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/6.07/mega.html , I'm considering a dinner at the Jules Verne restaurant for me and my partner on my Paris trip next weekend. I was hoping that any of you globetrotters in this forum would have an opinion on this restaurant. Is it worth its price? How far in advance do you have to reserve a table?

If anyone can recommend any other restaurants in Paris, I'd love to hear that as well!

Thanks!
M.

It depends on the kind of food you want to have, and of course of how much you are ready to pay for it...

Mattis--I remain loyal to one of my favorites in Paris, La Bucherie, on the Left Bank almost directly across the Seine from Notre Dame, on Rue de la Bucherie. Call and get a reservation for a window seat, and as you sit there the boats will go by at night illuminating the cathedral every 20 minutes or so. The food has always been very good, and the atmosphere (at least in a window seat) is terrific.

Thanks for tip on La Bucherie Djlawman and Doc! I'll remember that for future visits to Paris - due to some recent problems of gastric ulcer for my travel companion we couldn't eat much at all this time..

As for the Jules Verne restaurant I got a reply to an e-mail inquiry I sent to them, indicating that they were booked up for lunches until late April and for dinners to late May, all days of the week. Kind of woundrous how far in advance people can plan their meals!

Jules Verne, Eiffel Tower, 2nd platform, (free) access with private lift in south leg, tf 01-45556144, fax 01-47052941.

Try to place your reservation by FAX at least two weeks in advance - if still no luck, try to make a reservation after arrival trough your paris-hotel-concierge.

The sight (from the Eiffel tower) and the interior setting (by Slavik) and the kitchen (was a Michelin **, ist still a Michelin *) is worth the (reservation) efforts.
