During recruiting for my first job out of college, the employer flew me in and put me in a fancy downtown hotel…from my residence at a gigantic college campus that was a mere 2.5 hours drive away
i thought that was over the top |

pretty much every state that has either an airline hub or focus city.
I've only flown within CA (many) and PA (PIT-PHL). |
States where I’ve personally flown intra-state:
WI - a long time ago on progressively smaller planes as we flew north OR - RDM->PDX connection to onward flight CA - a bunch of times to/from a bunch of city pairs HI - several times AK - although it was an air taxi AZ - PHX<->TUS as a connection to/from other flights CO - DEN<->COS as a connection to/from other flights TX - as connections |

This got me interested in finding states that don't have scheduled internal passenger flights. As of now I think 20 out of 50 would qualify:

You can fly intra-state in Kansas HYS-SLN on UA.

Mine ("to/from" = to OR from)
WA: PSC-SEA, YKM-SEA CA:
MT: MSO-GTF HI: ITO-KOA, ITO-OGG, OGG-MKK, HNL-ITO, HNL-LIH CO: DEN to/from DRO, COS, PUB TX:
MO: STL-MCI TN: MEM-BNA |
Actually Iowa does have at least on intrastate commercial flight that I know of. You can book MCW-FOD* on United. It's ~25 minutes and usually doesn't go much above 10k feet.
*the full route goes ORD-MCW-FOD-ORD but you can book MCW-FOD if you wanted to for some of reason. |
As an added topic to this:
I've flown only intra-state even with connections, having done SAT-DFW-ELP and back. I've also flown inter-state for an intra-state trip, having done SEA-PDX-GEG (which I did just to get a new line on the FlightMemory map). Probably more common for cases like Florida where folks in the panhandle may connect in ATL or CLT to get to other cities in south Florida. |

I may even have left out one or two that I have taken. There are intra-Washington flights too.

CLT-GSO was about 15 minutes in the air, maybe less, on a smelly old US 737. Unsure if they even bothered with putting the gear up.
|
Flew r/t FAT-VIS (on return was only pax). 13 minutes wheels up to wheels down.

I flew STS-SFO when introduced by United; the bathroom window was narrow.
