It's really of no consequence to me what anywhere else wears. Offensive odours are a problem, because I can smell them. I'm not forced to stare at anyone else in the plane/lounge/airport, so why would I care what they wear?

And being faced with some guy showing off his hairy back in a tank top, I am ever so appreciative of nice pair of legs in a miniskirt. It's not sexual. It's aesthetics.

Full length basketball pants or sweat pants plus a loose fitting t-shirt. Absolutely no reason to go beyond that other than personal preference. If you feel more comfortable in khakis or even a suit and tie that's cool. But don't expect others to follow. Modest and comfortable is all that's required.

Amen to whoever said smell > appearance. I might snicker at how you're dressed, but it doesn't affect me. It's a whole different story if your last shower was three months ago. Also, don't forget to do laundry. You may take two showers a day (not healthy, IMHO), but if whatever you're wearing hasn't been washed in years... it'll stink.

I won't spend my flight obsessing over the sight of your bare feet, but I will be unhappy if you slip your Cole Hahns off and the smell is enough to singe my nostril hairs.

IMHO, feet (clean, dirty, shod, bare) never belong on the 'furniture'. That includes on a plane.
I do kind of wonder about the people who get grossed out about someone going into the toilet in socks or bare feet. The disgusting grot they pick up on their feet is no different than what gets picked up on the bottom of everyone's shoes - and tracked all over the cabin, including the area under the seat where you stow your bag - the bag that you might then pick up and set on your lap or your tray table.

For me, appropriate clothing means no completely exposed
genitals. That's it, on aircraft. In real life, in public, not even that.
I do really hate business suits, though.
