When the weather is unbearably hot/humid like it is in Shanghai now, I wear shorts whenever possible, and have no regrets, though I wouldn't be caught dead tucking any sort of shirt into them.

I'm always amazed at the ability of the natives to wear a suit and stay bone dry in those conditions while I'm sweating in my shorts and t-shirt.
