"Everybody speaks English"
Almost true in northern Europe, not so true outside the high-end tourist industry elsewhere.
"Isn't Japan terribly expensive?"
If you avoid the luxury hotels and gourmet restaurants, it's as cheap as or cheaper on a day-to-day basis than the U.S.

"Asians don't speak English"
"Asia is dangerous, look at that couple that got killed in Thailand"
Both said by people who have no issues whatsoever about travelling with an armed escort to Mexican cartel country

"You're travelling to (pick one: Turkey, Morocco, India, Oman, UAE, etc., etc.)? Aren't you scared?". I laugh, because I picture some mother in a place like Beirut saying, "You're going to (pick one: Chicago, New York, L.A., Detroit, etc.)? Do you know how many people are shot there? Aren't you scared?".

"And all connecting passengers will meet their connecting flights; we will hold them for you if needed."
Also: "Yes, I know the flight is already one hour late and I understand you are concerned about missing your connecting flight. Rest assured, our hub agents will take good care of you. No, I cannot put you on another airline."

Not that I've taken advantage of this, but in many hotels in China (I've likely stayed in more hotels in China than any other country; but really the example could be anywhere), staff may have never seen a foreign passport - in my case, a US passport - before. Once in a while, they'd ask me to tell them what to type in for my name nationality. I think I called myself "National Passport Center" once.

Most people claiming to be Canadians are really Americans.
Only budget travelers surviving on two groats and a fistful of bellybutton lint daily can really understand local culture.

Aren't there plenty of cases of hotels in certain Middle Eastern countries asking young, possibly-unmarried-looking couples for their marriage certificates? Or am I perpetuating a travel myth by saying that?
Ah, that's a great one. My first time on the ground there, after hearing that one forever, I was amazed how Japan is really quite cheap if you do it right.
