My phone is my clock radio. I don't pay any attention to that thing that's in the room.
Nightstand phone goes on the shelf below or floor with the receiver off.
Last week I was looking for a place to plug in my phone. One outlet in the wall, and I didn't see anything in the lamp. So I unplugged the clock so I had a place for the charger. I noticed the clock stayed on, so how long does the battery last if it's unplugged? A little while later I found the outlet in the base of the lamp
, so I plugged the clock back into the wall. It was still showing the correct time and (I assume) any alarm settings.
EDIT: I'm talking about the Hilton clock. I was in a Embassy Suites.

Please don't do that. Telephone service is a shared service on many PBXs and a phone off-hook will tie up the line and probably trigger a service error. If getting a call will be that interruptive, unplugging the phone is the better choice. I place the line cord under the handset so it's obvious to housekeeping or the next guest if I forget to plug it back in.

I've been taking the phone off the hook for a couple of decades now.
That's the first I've heard that messes up the PBX; it would seem to me to be a minimal issue nowadays, since who really uses room phones anymore.

1) Some nincompoop calls in the middle of the night for the wrong room.
2) A wake up call somehow gets scheduled at 0 dark thirty.
3) The phone takes up valuable real estate where the phone or iPad needs to be.
I move and unplug the phone, too.

I usually unplug the alarm clock so I have an electrical socket for my CPAP.
I once forgot to change the time zone setting on my phone. I needed to be in the lobby at 5.30 am. Woke up, showered, checked out. I got a few strange looks from checkout but being in zombie mode it didnt register.
After 10 minutes and none of my other party showing up was wondering if there was something amiss. looked at the various time zone clocks on the wall to work out it was 00.40 not 5.30. Checked back in and went to sleep.

Am I the only one here that actually uses a wake up call?
I also use my cell phone, but the wake up call is a good back up.
All IHG properties have the same alarm clock too (at least in the US). And somehow I always get the one with the wrong time set...

And another second to the TP thing. Why oh why is that so annoying? But I'll switch it around if I can!

Except when the phone doesn't reset itself to local time and I forget to check. It seems random, sometimes the phone resets, sometimes my laptop resets, and sometimes one does and the other doesn't...

Man, I remember when I first used my first blackberry as my alarm back in 2006 or so on a trip out west. It was new at the time and my first time traveling with it. Needless to say, I didn't realize the time didn't automatically update, so I ended up getting out of bed at 4am!

Rearrange the bedside clock, TV remote, telephone & the table lamp, if there is one to my like - basically a clean area with less clutter. Plus, move those hotel info-mercials about breakfast, HBO/TV mini-guide, etc. that's usually on the night stand and/or bed along other advertisement.
While setting any needed wakeup calls and/or alarm on my own smart/mobile device(s) - turned off or even unplug the alarm clock - last thing that I need is for it to go off at 3:45 am set by the previous occupants or attempt to do a reset with the blinking/flashing 12:00 (most have a battery backup, but not always)
What else do I move in the room? For a quick in-out overnight stay, I try not to move other things around. For an extended stay - probably move the sofa chair with the ottoman & sometimes the floor lamp for reading, and, possibly the work desk & chair if movable for a different view, maybe swing the HDTV around 90 degree (45/135 degree, etc.) so that I can see it from the work desk and/or sofa/lounger as I get comfortable.
Housekeeping's extra work after I checked out is appreciated & compensated/tipped accordingly as s/he has to put them back per property rules for how things should be ...
