Passengers Removed from Flight
First time poster, long time lurker.
I would like to say thanks to everyone for the great info on here. On to my question: It feels like I hear about people being kicked off of flights all the time and I have never seen it. Anyone have any stories?
Thanks!

I was flying once from DTW/SLC - in F, so, I was totally isolated from the peons & riff raff somewhere in the back!!
. . . .
Anyway, I dozed off while as we pushed back. The next thing you know, we were taxiing back to the gate! I asked what happened, and was told that someone in Y got up and started to walk around while the plane was taxiing - - apparently drunk, so they went back to the gate to remove said pax.
This was on a B752, and they used door 2L, so, sitting up front, I never actually saw all of the hubub.
I'm not sure if my story is juicy enough for what you're looking for!

I've seen it happen twice in the past year.
A few months ago I was flying DTW to LAS on a Friday night and we had left the gate awaiting to take off and then the pilot made an announcment we had to return to the gate. I thought at first it was a mechanical problem but the engines weren't shut off and a few minutes later 2 police officers came on board and removed 2 passangers and an FA told people sitting in first that a fight broke out between 2 passengers in coach and an FA sitting in the back wanted them removed so they returned to the gate. I was sitting row 7 in first and couldn't see back into coach from my seat but didn't hear any noise at all.
Another time on a MDW/DTW RJ we were on the ground for a while with a weight issue at MDW and the seatbelt sign never went off the entire flight and we had to wait probably 45 minutes for a gate once we landed at DTW. A pax got out of his seat when we were on the ground at DTW waiting on our gate and told the FA he had to go to the bathroom really bad and couldn't hold it any longer and she told him to sit down and he did and he asked her to to ask the pilot how much longer because he really had to go. She did call into the cockpit and he gave the ok for him to go so he got up and went to the lav and came back. When we got to the gate finally the pilot asked everyone to stay seated for a few more minutes and then 2 police officers came on board and told the passenger the pilot wanted him removed and several passengers said he did nothing wrong. I think it was a FA on a power trip. VERY lazy FA, she get out of her seat the entire flight even to collect trash. When I got off the plane the officers were talking to him so not sure what happened.

I have one out of MCI. July 2010, I was on my way to CHS via ATL. The MD-88 I was supposed to fly on kept circling the airport because a light saying that the landing gear was fully extended did not come on. The pilots were trying to get the control tower to see if the gear was down or not. After about 10 passes, in which the plane was very low and could be heard from inside the terminal, the plane landed and let out the passengers. The plane was quickly boarded again and we were on our way to ATL. At least, that is what I thought.
We were almost to the runway when the pilot got on the microphone and said we had a problem and that we had to return to the terminal. I thought it was a mechanical problem, but apparently a dead-heading flight attendant had to get off of the plane. I have no idea why. She just quickly hurried out of the plane and was gone. After sitting for a while longer, a passenger in first got very ticked off and said that he was late for a party in ATL and said there was no way in the world he would make it, so he wanted to get off. After sitting even longer, we finally got on the way to ATL. I never saw the police, but it sure was a heck of a delay. I think I was delayed about two hours, which is not the longest and I was not mad, but Delta gave me bonus miles and I did not even ask for them.

This is a from a few years back, and I cannot remember where I was flying to/from, but...
The plane door closed. I was in the exit row, door side aisle, and a Dutch man who was also a PM was other side aisle seat. The flight was quite empty. The flight attendant started the safety message but stopped. The plane door opened. Two women got on the plane.
The women appeared to be friends. One of the women (both mid-thirties, looked a little weathered) immediately went to the back of the plane, returned to her seat a short time later. The flight attendant started the safety message again. Once again, the plane door opened. One of the two women - the one who had not walked to the back of the plane - was escorted off the plane.
The door closed again, and the safety message started again. I think this was the time the FA actually completed the message. Once again, the door opened. This time, the woman who had been taken off the flight was back on with a GA. The woman escorted off claimed to have had a carry-on. It could not be located. The GA and FA decided this woman was fibbing. She was escorted off again and, once again, we heard the safety message.
The other woman then explained to the Dutch man and I that she had met this woman in the airport bar and the other woman claimed she stole her bag. She had gone back and reported this to the FA.
When we landed, the woman still on the plane went backwards on the plane, took a bag out of an overhead, and started walking off the plane with three bags. Out of nowhere, the Dutch guys screams, in Dutch, but then in English, something along the lines of, "That woman is a thief." Sure enough, the FA looks over and says, "Ma'am, I'll need to see that blue bag."
Although I didn't stick around to be sure, it seems the woman thrown off the plane was the one telling the truth, and the woman still on the plane had stolen the bag.

BA from BWI to LHR. Lady lights up a cig in her seat. Then starts screaming at the top of her lungs. Ended up getting tied down in a row of four to herself only a few rows in front of me. She screamed at the top of her lungs for several hours. Reminded me of when a baby has a tantrum, when they start to calm down then scream hard again. It was awful. Upon landing at LHR we had to wait for the police to take her off first. circa 2001-2003

Most common reason is on puddle jumpers that are overweight -- second most common is when it just isn't safe for the passenger involved to fly or even drive (that one speaks for itself)

Was on SEA-PEK last year and watched this dude drink him self silly in the Skyclub and then proceed to board the plane in BE a few rows from me. Was totally unable to get his carry on the ovedhead bin and actually fell backward into the aisle on one attempt. Pretty funny. The FA decided to remove him from the plane, and after a few minutes of apologies and protests the police came and escorted him off. However long story short, he was lucky as we lost an engine (767) a few hours out and had to return to SEA and try again the next day.
