Good question.

“Wheeled computer bag” strikes me as an oxymoron. Sounds like a second “suitcase” to me…not a “personal item.” C’mon, you’re totin’ eight wheels there… Seems like four too many. But maybe that’s just me.

Well there ya go. Don't take her so seriously.

If you're really truly peeved, write in, get some miles and move on. Just know they'll find her and reprimand her. Do you really want that?

And for bartendress........I'm not going to get into a pi$$ing battle with you but I'm not the only person who put 2 bags in the overhead. I decided to observe if this F/A made any other passenger in F/C put a bag under the seat.

NOT ONCE did she ask another passenger to do this. In fact the gentleman sitting next to me in 3C placed his larger carryon and a totebag as large as a duffel bag in the overhead but she didn't tell him to gate check or put it under the seat.

Here in Texas we call it a "pi$$ing contest"... But I digress...

Essentially you are pissed because you were called out and/or space ran out by the time you boarded. I stand by my prior comments... plan for the worst... etc, etc, etc...

Wow so many issues...so much discord!

Let all be clear....what the FA said was NOT good customer service.

Now here is a genuine question:
Is it actually stated anywhere by Delta that you are only allowed to put one item in the overhead bins?

I know it might be more considerate to only put one item there...but I am asking if Delta has that has a rule/policy/request.

It is clear that there is a rule that you can have one suitcase and one "personal item"...but I've never seen it stated that the personal item HAS to be able to fit underneath the seat in front of you.

So if the OP puts both his items up there, it is his right...so I don't understand the harsh comments/treatment.

You're a gloss over reader aren't you??

I was FIRST on the plane.

It's called 'plausible deniability' while flaming.

It's a full blown epidemic all over Flyertalk.

Add it to your list of things to get over. :p

Concur.

Not really sure six appearances after your OP to continue to defend yourself are necessary. People are going to think “the lady doth protest too much, methinks.” You’ve got a few FTers on your side here. Maybe you ought to call it a night…

Well, if you're one of The Wiggles, that explains a lot...

steveg2112 Mar 11, 2012 7:36 pm

I'm pm the ops side

I have a regular messenger style laptop bag and I can get it under the seat even with avod equipment but in some cases it ONLY JUST FITS. So I side with op, space is really compromised under those seats and even a reasonable size bag can be hard if not impossible to fit under. For reference it is 8" thick and I don't think that is an unreasonable size.

For reference I often see people put much smaller bags in the overhead bins in first without ever trying to fit them under their seats.

a really interesting poll

Concur also. But if not, and there's going to be a urination tournament, should it be volume or distance?

Really, the only way to setle this is a wiggle contest. Post pix and every body votes. Now that would be an interesting poll.

Last time a FA forced a DM to consolidate her bags because she was over the limit (of course DYKWIA made a huge scene) I gave the FA a 'job well done certificate'.
The OP knew the bag wouldn't fit and brought it on board anyway, enough said.

FlyingUnderTheRadar Mar 11, 2012 7:49 pm

What the FA said was perhaps out of line ... if the OP and PAX were joking before hand then perhaps the FA was trying to politely/joking comment on the size/amount of the PAX's carry-on bags.

On the other hand a large carry on plus a wheeled computer bag sounds like bit more than a carry on and personal item. IMHO a personal item is something one can carry without difficultly unless one has disability. But that does sound like this case.

The airlines really need to have a second size wise - one for a carry on and one for a personal item.

I'd pay (a HOOU cert) to witness that. :D

You're not making a good case here.

You are entitled to put two bags in the bins. Yet someone else in F, likely following the carry on rules, is going to have to gate check their bag??

That advances your argument? Seriously.

tkey75 Mar 11, 2012 7:51 pm

Any chance some mod can move this to the least substantial complaints thread and we can call it a night?
