I know the rules as well as the rest of you
But never in the 14 years of flying have I ever had a F/A confront me about my luggage.
And my wheeled computer bag doesn't fit under the seat with the AVOD. How do I know this you ask? Well I've tried to fit it under there before without success. And to all of those that say you put your wheeled computer bags under the seat you're FOS. I've witnessed many many other passengers who place their backpacks and slimline briefcases in the overhead bins. And YES that's the exact statement the F/A made to me. I already pack lighter utilizing a 20" rolling carryon. The very same carryon that I've used for 7 years and have taken to Asia and Europe. I know how to pack. |
Unfortunately, the last sentence of the OP's post does detract from the overall message.
That notwithstanding, the FA's comment does seem to be a bit out of line (but, then, we all have bad days). Those who seem to be bent on discrediting the OP are missing (ignoring?) the point that his bag will fit under seats when that space is not taken up by the AVOD electronics. Should those folks in bulkhead seats be similarly admonished to "pack lighter?" |

I choose not to display my status with the luggage tags because no one needs to know what my status is. |

I choose not to display my status with the luggage tags because no one needs to know what my status is. How does it distract? One of the current "themes" in this forum is the expression of disdain for DYKWIA. That, with the prevailing undercurrent here of "attack the OP," creates a situation where you opened yourself up to potential loss of message... as witnessed by those who seek to turn the conversation to their perception of your attitude, rather than the FA's attitude. |

Whatcha packing there, cowboy? Dell desktop with a 17" 16:9 monitor? If YOU KNOW your bag MAY NOT fit under certain seats... isn't it UP TO YOU to plan for the worst/hope for the best when packing?? |

I choose not to display my status with the luggage tags because no one needs to know what my status is. I had an FA on a recent flight from SJC-ATL make a comment about my bags. I carry on a 22" roll aboard and a rolling computerbag that can fit under a seat. In that case, the bags had to go in the OH as I was in a bulkhead. What is sad is that I see people with much larger bages than mine on a regular basis... |
If you knew thos prior to going to the airport then should you not have put your computer in another bag? WE all have more than one bag and honestly you should plan accordingly.
She was out of line with her remarks, but it is your responsibility to have a bag that will fit under the seat or check it. |

Sorry OP, the only such comment I have heard so far is from you. As a Diamond, you certainly know the rules. Seems to me you had two choices: Either gate check one of your bags or swap seats with someone where that nasty AVOD box wouldn't be in your way. In the end, you decided neither was good enough for you.
When it's a NWA 757 my wheeled computer bag ALWAYS fits under the seat in front of me. When it's a DL 757 w/o AVOD it fits with a squeeze. But when it's a DL w/ AVOD it doesn't fit. Simple as that. It fits on the MD's, 737, A320 and all the RJ's. |
She was out of line. Now if a pax had said that, they would be right. I almost always put my backpack in the overhead bin. I always check my other luggage.

FYI.......in FLL where I live you don't know until you're on the plane which 757 it is.

You acknowledge that a 757 out of FLL (your home station) is something of a crap-shoot... yet you insist on showing up with a bag that may not fit under the seat in front of you. That's DL's problem??? Really?? |

I have no alternative. My luggage contains prohibited items. The only item I carry on is a smaller rolling laptop bag that wont fit in some planes. I wonder if the OP might have misunderstood a joke by the FA? Inappropiate for sure, but maybe they were just kidding. OP..Did they actually make you gate check your laptop bag? I didn't really catch that part... |

I decided to observe if this F/A made any other passenger in F/C put a bag under the seat. NOT ONCE did she ask another passenger to do this. In fact the gentleman sitting next to me in 3C placed his larger carryon and a totebag as large as a duffel bag in the overhead but she didn't tell him to gate check or put it under the seat. |

So then what'd ya do to piss her off? ;)
That's what threw me off. She liked my wiggle. |
Sounds to me more like a friendly suggestion...

And this 'wheeled' computer bag sounds incredibly odd. My laptop and power cord fit into a SLEEVE that easily fits under ANY seat. I see MANY people with this 'wheeled computer bag' and I suspect this BAG holds far more than just a computer. As for confronting you - sounds to me more like a friendly suggestion. |
