I once suggested resume changes to a lady at Starbucks. She was one table over, and I couldn't help but look.

I have my kindle on through takeoff and landing and have never once been asked to turn it off. The whole no phone/kindles/etc... thing is all nonsense anyway. It has zero impact on the flight.

I flew PHX-LAX in F on United back in March and next to me was an elderly (60-70) year old gentleman who halfway through the flight took out a copy of Maxim and proceeded to start breathing heavily.

Sitting in F about 4 weeks ago from SNA to ATL and watched a mid 40's biz women in 2D mining for gold and eating what she found. Was totally grossed out and couldn't believe she was actually doing it. Picked a winner, examined it, then poked it right into her mouth and starting hunting another one. FA caught her and eyes grew wide in astonishment.
It was like a car wreck...I couldn't ignore her and all I could think of was the Saturday Night Live character ( catholic school girl ) that would stick her hands in her pits amd smell them furiously. I kept waiting for Will Ferrell to come out of the lav. Very odd behavior for what was otherwise a professional looking woman.

That was about it for me..when she asked for the 6th time for me to get up I did..and while she was gone, I fished 3 ice cubes out of her ice water and 2 out of my vodka tonic and put them in her (Yves St Laurent) purse which was on her seat!! Never got to see her notice it, but I am sure she noticed the dampness at some point after the flight.
It was amazingly satisfying, and her subsequent trips to the lav and bin didn't bother me at all after that.

Best one that I have happened to me just a few weeks ago actually. I was flying ORD-CVG on the 6 someodd AM flight. It was DL connection and was a E75. I was in first class in 3D and it was about ten minutes into the flight. Since the flight was so short, I was just sitting there enjoying my drink and my view out the window when the lady behind me had the guts to reach up and close MY window
. (Note: there was no one sitting next to me so it wasn't like I was disturbing anyone by leaving the window open.) When I asked her what she was doing, she said the she wanted to sleep and that the light from my window was keeping her awake. So I left it be for five minutes until she was asleep and proceeded to open both mine and her windows. It just ticks me off when people think they own the whole airplane because they sit if first.

I had reserved 2C on US PHL-LAX. In Row 1, there is a bulkhead so those Row 1 pax can't put their bags on the floor during take-off/landing. This tacky lady in front of me in 1C had put her large pink bag in the leg space in front of MY seat (under her seat) before I boarded. I simply pulled it out and handed it to her. She gave me attitude, and the FA quickly straightened her out.

On the shoes issue - is there any other public place you feel comfortable taking off your shoes in mixed company?? Not me and I don't want to witness it either. If you can't deal where more comfy shoes.

The beach
Swimming pool
Yoga class
Shoe stores
Temples & mosques
Nail salons
Though I'm more curious...are you saying you feel comfortable taking your shoes off only in the company of people of the same sex, but not in the company of people of the opposite sex? I find it amusing that someone would be offended/aroused by the sight of the feet of someone of the opposite sex, but not those of the same sex. (If you can't deal with it...don't look!)

Flip-flops are common summer footwear in lots of places, including where I live. In terms of how much of the foot one can see, if that's any concern at all, they're not much different from walking around barefoot. They keep the soles of your feet off the floor, but they don't hide a thing.

For the record - If I am going to any of the places mentioned where shoes are removed I am sure to make sure my feet and socks are clean.

My mom recently told me a story from a HNL-LAX flight on HA she had a few years ago. At the exact halfway point of the flight a woman in coach had a miscarriage. They brought her up to the F lav where a doctor who was on board did what he could. Of course, the woman behind my mom was FURIOUS that they would DARE occupy their private lav with this nonsense. She immediately began yelling at a FA about what a "disgrace" this was and how she would never be flying HA again.
Here this poor woman is, losing her child and potentially being on the verge of death herself, and the old bat in 2A is more concerned that she has to use the lav in Y. Real classy lady, real classy.
