iPhone and ActiveSync

I have tried to search for the answer to this question but have had no luck.
I have an old BlackJack I phone that I use ActiveSync application to get my company email off an Exchange server. On the phone, I choose AS and then "configure server." Then it asks me for the server address and whether it requries an SSL connection.
Then I fill in my user name, password, and Domain.
I want to get an iPhone 3G since my BJ is failing. This is the tricky part. I viewed the iPhone video on Apple's site and it showed how to use email. I see everything I've stated above (server address, user name and password) except the email client doesn't seem to be called AS (even though AS is supposed to be built in) and there is no place to enter in the Domain.
Will I be able to get my corp email without entering a domain? I don't want to risk a $50 "restocking fee" to try this out.
Thanks!
Jennifer

I'm pretty sure that the standard way of entering a domain in that case is to put: domain\username in the username box. So, if my windows login is bdjohns1, and I'm logging into the 'flyertalk' domain, I'd put in:
flyertalk\bdjohns1
If you can access your corporate email through ActiveSync on the BJ over the air, then this should probably work.

Do be aware that the iPhone will not synchronize tasks, so if you use this feature (an it's important to you) you will have to consider an alternative phone.
I don't understand why Apple opted to do this; as I use tasks daily, for now I have had to let the iPhone dream go.

Thanks to both of you for your info. I tried this combined domain/username on an old (meaning so last year
) iPhone with POP and it didn't work although the systems administrators say POP is set up. However, I have no trouble with ActiveSync on the BJI.
I don't care about tasks. I never get to them anyway!
But I admit it's stupid for Apple to disallow this feature. Can't even begin to understand why they would do this.
I couldn't get my hands on an iPhone today because I refuse to wait even 15 mins on line to pay $300 for anything so I will wait.

Anyway, native exchange works great. I did not even need to put the DOMAIN in. It simply worked with my username. Don't know why but it works perfectly.
If anyone is having trouble getting onto the exchange server, try ignoring the domain.

I was able to get my hands on an iPhone today after about a 3 hour wait. Not too bad, I thought.

The only time you really MUST put the domain is when the same userid exists in multiple domains (that the server knows about). Othertimes you might put it in to speed up the authenication process (if you aren't in the default domain).

I have to say that the failure to have a way to sync Tasks/ToDo's is a weird, head-scratching lacuna on Apple's part. None of the the third-party apps/work arounds are anything but a pain to use.
I'm about ready to pull the trigger on getting the websync version of my PIM, Time&Chaos. It has an iPhone-formatted option and the price is the same as Apple's MobileMe.
