Need help programming Hotmail through Messaging on the VX6900.
There must be a way to program the XV6900 to receive Hotmail through Messaging on the XV6900. I do not want to deal with having to use IE and go to the Windows Live site and then have to click on the Hotmail tab which is a PIA. I used to be able to view my Hotmail messages through messaging on my Moto Q without a problem. Also I have a premium Hotmail account.
Currently I tried setting Hotmail up as a new account in Messaging as follows:
Email address: [email protected]
Your name: XXX XXXX
Account display name: Hotmail
Incoming mail server: pop3.live.com
Account type: pop3
User name: [email protected]
Password:XXXXXX
Save password box is checked
Outgoing (SMTP) mail server: smtp.live.com
Outgoing server requires authentication box is checked
Use the same user name and password for sending email box is checked
Advanced Server Settings:
Both require SSL for incoming and outgoing email boxes are checked
Network connection: The Internet
What am I doing wrong?

I would try specifying the port numbers.
https://help.live.com/help.aspx?proj...&format=a2#sr7
# In Outlook Express, on the Tools menu, click Accounts.
# Click Add, and then click Mail.
# Type your name, and then click Next.
# Type your full Windows Live Hotmail e-mail address, and then click Next.
# Enter the following information, and then click Next:
* In the My incoming mail server is a box, click POP3.
* In the Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP, or HTTP) server box, type pop3.live.com.
* In the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server box, type smtp.live.com
# Type the account name and the password for your Windows Live Hotmail account. Clear the Remember password check box unless you're the only person with access to the computer. Make sure that the Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) check box isn't selected.
# Click Next, and then click Finish.
# In the Internet Accounts window, on the Mail tab, click the Windows Live Hotmail account that you added, and then click Properties.
# On the Advanced tab, under Server Port Numbers, enter the following information, and then click OK:
* In the Incoming server (POP3) box, type 995.
* In the Outgoing server (SMTP) box, type 25.
* Under both Outgoing mail (SMTP) and Incoming mail (POP3), select the This server requires a secure connection (SSL) check box.

Doesn't Windows Live offer a Hotmail push application for Windows Mobile?
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...oad-en-us.mspx
I've never used hotmail, so I'm not 100% sure.
I also hate POP on a mobile device, so I'd almost prefer using www.mail2web.com and setting up a mobile activesync account, then pulling the email from hotmail into that account.

soitgoes, are you saying that I should just type in the numbers 995 & 25 instead of what I have written?
* In the Incoming server (POP3) box, type 995.
* In the Outgoing server (SMTP) box, type 25.

You still need to specify the server address (pop3.live.com).

OK, I figured it out the issue regarding how to receive Hotmail in my "Messaging" section on the XV6900. I am pretty sure that this fix applies to all of the phones Verizon is selling with Windows Mobile 6 Professional and not just my model.
For some reason Pocket MSN was not part of the software installed on the phone by the geniuses at Verizon although it was part of Windows Mobile 5.0.
I found out about the fix when I finally read about it on the xda-developers website. Here is the link to the thread discussing the problem.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...d.php?p=1575980
You have to register for the site and then download the Pocket MSN cab. The minute I installed it on the XV6900 I was able to download all of the folders in my Hotmail account and they appeared in the Messaging section of the phone. I won't have to deal with using Internet Explorer, going to the Windows Live site and logging into my Hotmail account any longer. ^

Downloads are temporarily undergoing maintenance. Please return on 6/16/2008.
I didn't feel like waiting for a week.

It may be an outdated version, but so far it is working just fine and hopefully I won't have any issues running it with Windows Mobile 6 Professional.
BTW, I do appreciate your help. ^
